Huge moan

Hi guys.

Sorry, but I really need a good old rant and hope I'll get some sympathy here.

Our Smurf led government has just announced that they'll try banning GPS speed camera warning systems (Coyote mostly in France).

Nevermind that this thing also tells me what speed in should be driving at legally (a bit like french cuisine, sometimes a mistery). It also informs me of accidents, road traffic etc just as I can inform other drivers in the community.

It really does not look they will stop taking us for cash cows. :headbang:

I still have my 12 points and never had a speed related accident (even the Golf you see as my avatar).
:headbang: :headbang: :fuelfire: :fuelfire:   :x :x

Just for info for the UK members: 12 points in France is the equivalent of 0 points in the UK :D

Although French methods are to "buy" points from your grandmother, the neighbour who does not own a car etc etc :D

Yeh, that's right. In France you START with 12 points, and have points deducted for offenses.

Perhaps any UK residents with a few points on their licence should go through a few speed cameras in France and have the points removed - then return to blighty with a clean licence

.............and the reverse system allegedly operates in the UK whereby you pay someone else to take your points, students, mates who live abroad etc etc... :o

Hmm, good point. Do you think the driver needs to be alive to receive points or can we raid town hall ?

:) Yep sure enough, I've never been caught speeeding to the popint where they take/give me points. The worst is that if you're over 50km per hr over the limit, they take your car -I might put it in my girlfriends name.

Luckily I've kept my UK (EU) driving license and so they just take my money but never chase me for points.

I think they operate the same way as the UK, that in your name there is a shadow license in operation. In other words, if you have received sufficient points to be banned, they will still do that based on your virtual (French) license.

However, my experience of driving in France is that they are nowhere near as anal as the UK traffic force though, and 50km on top of the 130 limit is a nice 180 km/h :)

Surely they can't ban a GPS 'hazard blackspot' warning system :D

Just so happens that cameras are at hazard blackspots ;)

Cough cough.

Dave

They banned it in Switzerland and will conviscate your TomTom if you have the cameras loaded.

Hell, over here it seems they pretty much do as they please. We'll go on stike if someone so much sniffs at your workers or unemplyed rights, but never mind individual freedom and common sense.

They're likely to ban all the sites in operation and get operators (tomtom etc) to take out the speed camera features as well as all sofware for smartphones.

Despite all this great food and lifestyle I do sometimes feel I that I have timewarped to 1984  :x

Thats what I like about France LOL. In the UK its "how far would you like me to bend over so you can shove it in deeper?"

But this idea sucks big time. But then the autoroute cameras are usually pretty well signposted........its only eight years since I could drive from Calais to Tarbes and never see one :(

Can't you just rename the cameras to 'accident blackspots' or 'private personal go-slow zones'

All seems very stupid to me. Only politicians could employ such poor logic.

Except when its Le Man when they have a competition to see who can confiscate the most expensive car

Few years ago my dad got caught in France and the guy took the cash, still not entirely sure if my dad did actually get points as we speak bad french and he spoke bad english, but the policeman let us go 60 euros lighter

I don't see how this works in the era of android/iPhone...you could just delete the app if you're stopped! Seems way over the top to me!

It is not like France has a border like Switserland where every car still gets stopped most of the time. The Swiss border control looks at your dash for any equipment, which is why it is vital to have a small unit that you just put in your pocket just before you cross the border.

 True in UK we do take it a bit deep, but then the Police are respectable. When repping I got stopped a few times, but once they saw that I was a nice young fella driving for a living and not being a complete prat they just let me go. Here they tried to stop me driving into my own bleeming street because I did not have the right MACAROON (I would need to take a day off to go to the mairie for that) AHHHH knobbbbs! :P gosh, I fell better now :D

Word of warning to you all: they are also taking the signs down on the motorways. :!:

Not quite yet. They will take your froggy points off if you are caught in UK. In france they're too lazy. This EU directive is for sure being put into action this summerr though (hear it on serious radio), so far, it was only in principle.

past 168km/hr and they take your car away. (so make sure its not in your name.)

For us, the road side cameras are not an issue as there is no exchange of information. It is only if you get stopped you have a problem...
