so i replaced following... oil/filter, trans fluid, Diff fluid, Coolant, thermostat, water pump, both fan belts, vanos seal, valve cover gasket, tire rotation all in 8 hours total.

NOTE- when doing VANO/Water Pump. You might wanna get a big pry bar to push the engine back a little. there is NO way in hell they are coming out without a pry bar. the front bracket/brace is so close to the front of the engine, it does not want to come out at all. This is the hardest procedure of all.

my thermostat/water pump is still like new. I might sell or keep them.

@ 83,000 miles, I was so surprised how clean my engine was. no crud no build up of anykind. even Vanos seal wasn't that "loose" but car is running better than before :)

OMG, That's impressive work... looks like brain surgery to me... i am in awe of all you guys that are brave (skilled!) enough to take apart your engines!

Nice work!

Good job. The Vanos is not a hard job, just very time consuming.....
I did not need to pry the engine to get my Vanos out, but on 'Reaches' car we had to trim 3 threads on the left most bottom stud to get it out.
I did not think about trying to move the engine block... I did not think it would move much without loosening the engine mounting bolts....

If you think it runs better now, wait about 500 city miles for the Vanos O-Rings to seat/break in..

How did your water pump impeller look?

The engine looks great! How often have you been changing your oil? What model do you have? I know it's subjective, but do you drive it hard?

NICE WORK!

good work, i thought about changing my water pump but i only have 50k so i'll probably wait until about 100k.

yea the Waterpump impellers were BRAND NEW. i am not joking. Everyone kept saying it'll wear out blah blah...bull crap. this thing was good as new. I am goign to sell/re-use later. Thats how much I trust my waterpump and thermostat too

oil change intervals 15k during free maintenance, then around 4~5k afterwards with mobile 1.

ABSOLUTELY did not need to do any of these maintenance for another 20~30k miles at the least. so if you are worried about your car, wait till 100k before you touch em. (for me)

them VANOS studs are just little too long and it's like what you said, 3mm too big. I used the pry bar to push it back just enough to clear it out. I don't know how you did without it.

so was this work precautionary or did you have any issues ??

strictly a preventative maintenance. I had zero issues, no noise of any kind. like i said, I'll still use the water pump and thermostat as they were good as new when taken out @ 83,000 miles

What noise? Are we talking about the ghost whistle at idle?

I'm looking to do this maintenance on my car, new thermostat + water pump.
Reading this and further information about vanos I'm thinking I might as well do that while I'm in there along with changing the oilfilter, airfilter and belts.

However, last time I looked access to both thermostat and water pump is quite limited.
When you did it, did you do a total front end removal?
Or does it become more easily accesible once the vanos is out of the way?

Great work I like doing my own maintenance. What diff oil I'd you use I did my gearbox oil recently. It feels better changing gear first to second now.
