HP DVD Writer Stop Working. Advice Please.

I was trying to play a DVD on my desktop yesterday, but nothing happened, i.e. no disc in drive. I then put an audio CD in, the drive didn't recognise any disc. I tried several times, then it played the CD but the sound quality was very poor. I tried another DVD later, and it didn't always played.

Today, it stops reading any CD/DVD completely after I used a lens cleaner. Is it now dead?

The current DVD writer on my desktop is DH16ABLH (SATA DVD Ram and Double Layer supporting LightScribe technology). Is a brand new one over £100? Should I buy a second-hand identical one on ebay, or other brand but brand new?

Sounds like the disc drive is kapput had similar symptons a few year back best off replacing it.

If you don't use the light scribe functionality, you can get a blu ray reader with DVD rw functionality for not too much money. Avoid fleabay, look on scan computers website, ebuyer or amazon

Pioneer, samsung and lite-on are all good brands

Thanks. I found a Pioneer one with LabelFlash for £15 at Amazon. I could have saved £4 on the lens cleaner today.
