Just having a nosey around again... well over a 1000 20i's registered last year... and just a handful of 35i/35is's.

Demand for the larger engines has dropped off sharply. At least if I don't have exclusivity in the look, I do in the engine/model.

I suspect that Im going to take the biggest 'hit' I have ever had come trade in time , a couple of weeks before christmas I was filling up with petrol and the chap on the other side of the pump said nice car what MPG , when I said mostly low 20's I could see the look of horror in his face , guess that says it all really

Same with most high power or sports cars though. I suspect the guy you were talking to was a rep or family man filling up his Vauxhall diesel?

Thats close it was a golf diesel :)

I do 7K miles a year, no point me getting a diesel so why not have something that shows avg mpg at 25.6...

Its not a fortune extra to spend for the pleasure that the car brings is it? :D

Ive just been thro the same excercise when my wife says that she wants a smaller, more economical car than her 30mpg Audi - Spend another £15k on a decent car to "Save" £315 - I dont think so! :D

Exactly.. like the 520d ED I looked at recently, looks fab, comfy, good mileage, younger car etc.. yet add the fuel saving, insurance etc together and it would still take several years to make a saving as the car costs more to buy.

I bought mine as a Modern day - "Big Healey" - and thats what I have, a 3.0ltr Six in a conventional layout .

Life is not just about being economical and frugal is it?

You should have said 50 plus average 'these new engines are amazing' and watch him sink lol...

Which is without word of a lie true.
IIRC BMW has won awards with this engine year on year.....so it is AMAZING.....(we won't mention the mpg  )

Oh, I nearly forgot......Diesel now 45p/gallon MORE than Petrol round here.......(s*d the price in litres).
That is rather a lot.......

My annual mileage is around 7/8 K also which is why I dont even think about it and even if it was a bit higher it would still be worth it for the pleasure I get from the car

My annual mileage is around 30k. However, i've always taken the view, 'what would I be saving the money for? - oh, yeah, to buy a sports car...'

I guy in a Range Rover asked me at the weekend what mpg I got (whilst we stood at the pumps) he seemed pretty shocked at a 'low' 32 mpg!

Thats a scarey site - Ive looked on it to see how few of my previously owned cars exist now - Probably worth a fortune as well - Isn't hindsight a wonderful gift?
