Well - now that my Z4MC collection is imminent (tomorrow morning!!) thought I'd say hello. I've had 4 M3's in a row and felt like a change. Main drivers for this were :

1. Cost - similar age and mileage Z4MC costs much less.
2. Performance - Looking at the power to weight ratio, it struck me that the Z4MC can't help but be quicker than an E46 M3 and I think it may be pretty close to the E92 M3.
3. Economy - I loved the 3.2 six in the E46 M3. I did 89,000 miles in my first one and regularly achieved over 30mpg when I was commuting between Glasgow and Edinburgh for a year.

Already got a set of 19" CSL's sitting in the garage just waiting to go on.

One story I wanted to share as a warning, however. I wasn't offered a great partex deal from the dealer, so tried getting some web valuations. One of the better offers for my 08 M3 came from wewillbuyyourcar.com. So, warily, I agreed to the deal and a date and time for collection was agreed. When the driver arrived at my home all appeared to go fairly smoothly (apart from the tyre wear, but that was solvable as I had spare tyres in the garage). However, the guy from the actual company (driver was allegedly independent) then called me and said that their local BMW dealer had advised them that this model M3 with that mileage (just under 26,000) would be needing new disc and pads all round!! Complete drivel, but they then reduced the offer price by £1400. So, I declined, even though it was still a pretty good price, but I just won't deal with folks like this. This was bad enough, but when I agreed a sale price with my local dealer they HPI'd it and discovered that the web company had put a "stalker loan" on my car. This prevented the local dealer from being able to issue me with a cheque, so now I'm having to pay for the car with a credit card and incurring a 1% additional charge. Basically, avoid at all costs!! Complete waste of time and caused much stress and additional frustrations.

Cheers .. DC

Hi, welcome! and enjoy your ride home :driving:

what wheels are you getting rid of? pm me with some details if you are looking to sell them :P

What's a stalker loan? And welcome by the way! Another coupe, poor roadsters are getting well outnumbered :)

Not sure myself what a "Stalker Loan" is, but I would assume they buy all their cars with finance and this must be a provisional loan agreement I guess?!?!

As much as I love my Z4M, it wouldn't get near a new M3. It would give a CSL a decent run for it's money though..

flimper - you're correct. Did the sums and came out with Z4MC - 229bhp/tonne, E92 M3 - 250bhp/tonne. Not all that much in it really, but 20 extra bhp per tonne would obviously be an advantage ...

DC,
What's the real life running costs of a E92 M3?
Guess servicing won't be that difference compared to my Z4M but I would of though fuel will be horrendous!

My Z4MC is in for its first MOT and Insp 1 today...gulp!

Gareth

The running costs for the M3 are I suspect a little higher in terms of servicing (at least the services I had done seemed pretty expensive - first oil service was almost £500!! and it was just oil servicing i.e. diff, gearbox and engine + microfilter). Fuel consumption was pretty grim. Best I ever achieved was 24mpg on a long motorway run - gulp! Insurance was pretty expensive as well. A minor point, but both E92's I owned needed a litre of oil every 4,000 miles or so, which neither E46 I owned ever needed.
