Hello ,first post from newbie-
Almost, been looking at several Z$'s,found a 05 model for top end money, was worried about tyre costs , insurance but seem to have solved those issues 8) got most things right in my head , had test drive-fantastic car,FSH 69,000miles only thing left to sort out green mould on the ragtop, would this be easy to get back to top condition , what is the lifespan on the fabric roofs ?
Cheers
Bob

Hi and welcome to the forum Bob

The green mould is common and a good clean will sort the hood out for you and have it looking like new :)

There are many threads on cleaning the soft top if you search the site, heres one to get you going http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=37412

I use Autoglym cleaner and proofer.

Cheers Swiftly, made my mind up , going in tomorrow with the cash fingers crossed, its at a dealers, its at the low end of there price range and no movement on price :headbang: (top end for price me ) but keeping me off the motorbikes which im quite happy about at my age :(  ............
Will post some pics when i get it.

Hi & Welcome,

If there's no movement on the price from the dealer then perhaps you can persuade them to throw in something, next service/fresh MOT/6 months tax/full tank of juice etc, don't ask - don't get

Take a good look through the rear wheels & see if you can see if a coil spring is broken at the bottom, if it is use as a bargaining chip & get them to sort it (it's an MOT failure) Zed's are know for this 'feature' but the good news is that it's a relatively cheap & easy fix, I bought my Zed but either didn't check closely enough or one broke shortly after purchase, cost me £110 & 45 mins of mine & a friends time to do both sides.

+1 on the AG roof cleaning/protector kit, don't shake the protector too much as it turns to a froth & wont pump through the trigger until it's turned back to a liquid

Happy driving & good luck, I've been out for a roof down drive today, bought a big cheesy grin to my face

Tony

Hi Zoton,

I'm a biker that moved to top down sports cars - you'll have some fun in the Zed believe me!

(And no leathers boots gloves and helmets to bother with. . . )

Welcome to the Forum.

Hi and welcome! Looking forward to seeing the car.

Push for 2years AUC warranty if the price is not negotiable, worth a try!

mmmmmmmmmmm the plot thickens and my mind is no longer made up :x  ,looked through the internet the day i was going in with the cash and a silly offer and found a local, 2.0 55 plate 55,000 mile black z4 , so due to work I could only see it today and thought it was a good idea to do so, looks great , been laid up for a year till November 2013,then serviced by independent dealer. So anyway went to see this morning all looked good, went to raise the roof up as it was down in the showroom and the light flashed red (engine running as well) slight motor spin then it stopped.Roof never moved off its seat.Rear tray was ok,don't think it was battery related as the 2.5 i test drove the roof went up straight after it was started off a battery pack.Any thoughts ?
The other thing the dealer said it s front right brake was sticking , also 2 rear tyres will be fitted so cant test drive till Friday :driving: :driving:
Also its a bit more money (sticker price) but i did flick through the computer and it said 32mpg :fuelfire: the 2.5 over the six miles had 20mpg-will i miss the performance on the 2.0ltr  .........................

Well if the roof motor has gone they're going to have to replace it before selling the car.
( proof of new motor fitted req ) So that could be a good thing.

As far as performance it depends what your moving from, the 2.0 owners on here will say in the real world there
Is adequate power.

You must have read about the cost of replacing the roof motor on the forum - unless it's renewed I wouldn't want that particular Zed.

The 2.0 litre can be fun and does have adequate performance to be enjoyable. Mpg is good (depending upon how it is driven) - using all the performance I would get between 27 and 29 mpg - but that's on our favourite back roads - it would manage high 30's on a long run, even better on a steady motorway. My 3.0si returns 21/23mpg on the same back roads and to get 30+mpg takes effort, determination and restraint but I use a diesel for long runs (Octavia 140bhp 60mpg!) and my Zed is for enjoyment. Others achieve higher mpg commuting their Zeds so don't be put off. I would say my 3.0si is very sensitive to the way it is driven - use some of the performance and the mpg dips alarmingly - that wasn't the case in the 2.0 litre.

So it depends how your going to be using your Zed. You will enjoy it though - for me the performance compensates for the loss in mpg.

The more i dig the more i find, seems the 2.5 has been at the dealers since July, found there Youtube channel and its there with a video post date stamped on it for July ,and the sales blurb states 67,000 so its done 2000 miles since its been there at the dealers and its last service was at 55000,currently on 69k.
Whats it been doing whilst its there i ask myself ? Or better still will ask the dealers :telloff:

Note to self.take your glasses in next time mileage is the same and read the servise book, last one was at 60000,never dithered so much about a car in my life.. ,,,,doe :x sorry

Hi Bob,

So... what are you thinking then? Is the 2.5 looking like the car for you?
Whilst the 2.0 is more economical, the whole point is having something that both looks and sounds the part surely?

Let us know what you decide and when you're a new Zed owner.

Deposit down :o pending new MOT and all advisories done (doubt there are any but ya never know) ,paid top end of the cars value and a bit more but seems it was the better of the ones ive seen so far.Very Very clean.Cleaned since last visit

Excellent - collection on a Friday as well - nice treat for the weekend...and a bit longer too lol.

So you paid a bit more for it but like you said, compared to the others you've seen...this one fits the bill.

Look forward to seeing the pics.
