How water proof is the Z4?

Lol been busy..

Eastern not helping out at all? seems a shame that alot of people are having problems and everyone still has to keep paying out £3xx+ a month for a car thats not functioning properly

Mines only been like that on one occasion other times the odd drip but mostly dry, I just think it how the roof closes and whether it gives a good enough seal. BMW have either fitted a batch of bad seals as its always in the same place on the passenger side or a design fault.

As mines only sporadic it doesn't bother me for the moment.

I thought you'd nicked my picture for a minute, then I noticed the red leather. Mine looked similar to that at times, but only when in rain for ages. If yours came through after being splashed, then thats a definate leak.

They replaced all my seals last week and its not fixed. Replacing the car now. Has the dealer seen this?

I'm also wandering if there was a faulty batch or something, cos your car and my car were very close on delivery and presumably build?

Jet wash mine all the time and not a drop of a leak anywhere.
The new one I get will see me with fingers crossed when I wash it for the first time!

I believe its fine to jet wash a car, but these hand car washes you go too hold the lance far to close to the car. You should be around 50-100cm away instead of like 15cm

Being this close can damage paint, and in my case blow one of my headlight washer covers off :headbang: and in your case break seals on your windows allowing water to be forced in.

Just ask the person politely if he could hold the lance further away from your car

The thing is he was a good distance away, that's the unfortunate thing

Oh right, well in that case i do not have a clue!

Since joining this forum and this being my second post, i was looking forward to go buy a e89 Z4, but with the problems i have seen so far its not justifying why i shouldn't settle with an E85! Only thing that tells me to go for the E89 is the styling interior/exterior and metal roof but if it leaks that's no good to man nor beast lol

Just because you get a few people on a forum frequented by those that have problems with their cars make you think that there's a problem with E89 leaks. Afaik there isn't any data that these cars have a problem with leaks. In fact if you were to compare to other metal roofed convertibles, I'm sure you'd find that the E89 was one of the best. By their very nature this type of car will have the occasional problem, it would be incredible if there weren't.

My car has a leak that they just cant fix...changed all the seals now and it still leaks, so mine is quite a serious problem.

Dealer tells me none of the other Z4's they've sold have leaked. The majority of people on this forum have no leaks, so I agree, I really don't think its a characteristic, or design fault with these cars. I think the ones that do leak are just duffers.

Mine is being replaced, and I'm confident the new one wont leak (only time will tell!).

Just beware though, ALL of the 20i and 28i have faulty hill start....

OK is this hill start only a problem in manuals??

I know my BMW does not have this function, but when my wife had her MINI, i thought the brakes were sticking for a split second longer when setting off, it wasn't until the dealership asked if everything was ok, that i told them of the sticking brakes when pulling off and he explained it

Yeah. Auto's dont need it (as I understand it).

Is it a problem? With the electronic parking brake, you dont have the same feeling as a proper handbrake, but with practice you can get used to it.

However, it depends how many hills are around you, and how steep they are.
