How to tell if I have adaptive suspension?

So my car is nearly fully-featured and the previous owner told me it had adaptive suspension; but I swear I can feel almost no difference on the universally terrible roads I enjoy here. On our dual carriageways there are metal expansion joints every thirty feet or-so (cheap tarmac expands under the sun) and the whole car bounces over them and wallows up and down like a long length of elastic at any speed above 35-40mph. In sport mode the wallowing is reduced, but maybe it's a placebo effect? Is there any way to check if I have adaptive shocks without jacking the car up? I have Non-Runflat Supersports, very recently fitted.

Inputting the VIN into a search engine gives me a Z4 in... North Carolina :tumbleweed:

Two easy ways, one, look at the shocks under the car, if there's a small bell shaped device near the bottom of the strut, with a wire coming from it, its adaptive.

The other way is via your VIN, a decoder will list it. As you've found, some decoders are better than others.

You can see the bell shaped device and cable at the bottom of the strut here:

As suggested by Maniac, you can do a VIN check here: http://www.bmwvin.com - enter the last 7 characters of your VIN (you'll find it on a sticker on the drivers side where the door is) and it should bring up all the options the car was ordered with at the factory.
