Can anyone tell me if this car is an SE or a Sport?

I went to get an insurance quote and comparethemarket say it is an SE.

On balance I'd say it was a sport. All of the options that made an se a sport, could be ordered seperately, so options like the sports seats and the m-sport suspension etc could be ordered and fitted to an se... the one that usually gives it away to me is the dark headlining. I can't imagine many se owners optioning that, so it's a fair bet it is a factory sport.
I think the DVLA were a bit lax with the v5 descriptions and a lot of coupes ended up with SE in the title. Mine does, but I've got it's original build spec which lists all of the correct sport bits.

But we're they listed as options?
My si was the same, all the sport bits listed on the build but still listed as an se.

That BMW VIN checker often referred to on this site should tell you. It told me mine was an SE. You will need the chassis number though.

That's a factory Sport, far too many options ticked to be an "SE"

It has Sport seats, Sport steering whee, Black headlining and 108 wheels which were an option on a Sport. Not only that, it seems lower than the equivalent SE which would indicate Sport IMO.

So was your Si an Se Rob?

As I understood it, the Sport was basically a made up trim level for the UK market with a subset of options added automatically into the build. When I look at my build, the only things listed as Standard Equipment are;

Driving Dynamic Control
Chrome Line Interior
Fog lights
On board computer
Language version English

Bit of an odd list for standard equipment - maybe it's the German sense of humour...

Everything else (including all the 'Sport' bits) are listed as Optional Equipment

V5 lists the car as Z4 3.0Si Coupe - so I was wrong, no mention of SE on there, but if I put the reg no into any insurance quote engine, it tends to throw it up as SE.

I seem to remember the se doesn't have the black roof lining that this has, so along with what everyone else is saying I think it's a sport.

The black roof lining was optional on SE according to that link.

Perhaps the M steering wheel decides it. It's a sport.

Unless it's been added post sale...

It's got to be a sport then surely.
No one in their right mind would buy an se then select every single option required to make it a sport. Wouldn't make any sense and would surely have cost way way more than just buying an se. Even if the buyers motivation was to have the comfier se suspension it would have been cheaper just to buy the se shocks and springs and have them fitted than option an se into a sport. Even then you sort of defeat the objective by opting for 18" wheels

Shows how prices are creeping up. They are asking £500 more than I paid for my ///M Roadster 4 years' ago, albeit that mine had another 40k miles on it!

Exactly. I can't see it being anything but a sport.

The Si coupe i just sold was on all databases as Se but the defining differences were all as Sport
Msport steering wheel
Msport springs
Msport seats
108s
+ anthracite headlining
there is no other spec differences between Se / Sport
so as with Z4pilot it isn't uncommon & imo OP the car isn't a Se

My SPORT showed as SE doing online checks and was even insured as one. This was because log book had neither SE or SPORT just SI. BMW confirmed it was a SPORT.

Only thing wrong with it is that it's missing the buttons for the roof to come down and the roof seems to be stuck.

If it's advertised as an SI but the paperwork is showing SE then you could try to knock it down in price a bit based on the paperwork. Chances are that the garage will not have a clue about the spec differences on the models.

It can be both an si & an se

The garage probably don't know that so any money saved buying it is good. Even though it's a Coo Pee.

Could be worse. Could be one of those non Z4, 3 Series in Drag, hard top, Mercedes SLK wannabe convertibles that is the E89!
