How to tell date of manufacture !

I'm sure this is a really question to answer but how can I tell when my Z4 was manufactured ?

I'm in the process of buying a Z4M M/F steering wheel and depending on the age of car will denote if i require to use a cable for the controls when fitting.

The car is a 54 plate but this is a little close to the changeover date.

Thanks

Another way is to enter your car's serial number (the last 7 digits of your VIN) into the "Serial Number:" box here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do It will tell you the month and year of manufacture and you can also find out all the part numbers for everything on your car. Dead useful.

That's an interesting site. Tried mine and found there is 6 months between manufacture and first registration. Is that about the norm?

Dont really know if that's normal or not. Mine was built in November 2006 and registered the same month if i remember correctly.

both the Z4 & the Cooper S we have were built in JUNE 2003 and registered on the 01st October. strange coincidence.

Oops, remember wrong! My car was built October 06 and registered November 06!

navid.v, when you enter your serial number and press "Search" it will pick from those tables the correct options according to your car. The third table from the right is the Production Month, you then click the Browse Parts button to.. well, browse the parts list. :)

Example of mine:
realoem.jpg

manufactured 08/2008, not registered till 03/2009

when did they stop manufacturing?

did the chasis numbers just keep incrementing by 1?

realoem only finds info on 4 more after my chasis number, how significant is the LF in the last 7 digits?
