Guys

I have noticed heavy condensation in my front drivers lights (2006 Si) and need to replace what I think are complete sealed units. does anyone know how I can remove these without removing the whole front bumper assembly?

There are 2 covers under the front wheel arch. I think you need to remove the lower cover and get access to the front fog lights, e.g. replacing the bulb. You don't have to remove the whole front bumper.

Cheers Ksher,

a local non BMW dealer assured me they were sealed units and to get rid of the condensation I had to replace the whole unit rather than just replace the bulb? I had thought there might be rubber seals that may have gone brittle or just began leaking.

had both of mine replaced recently by dealer, I know they didnt remove the bumper, but it's going to be so much easier on a ramp.

cheers, I assume from the above post then that the unit is removed from inside the wing/wheel arch then?

Steve - did you just kick up a fuss or just ask normally? Ive heard people on here not getting the fogs replaces for one reason or another under warranty...

Hi,

you can gain access from the wheel arch, there is a cover which is just screwed on, turn them 90 degrees and they come off. I had to change mine and in all fairnes its easier and quicker to take the wheels off. However the wheels may never have been off since manufacture so can be a right pig to get off.

Are you serious? Any car will have had at least one set of tyres.

I removed the complete unit through the hatches and it is easier with the wheel off.

I'd suggest replacing them with the official BMW blanking plates as I did. Looks better and the fog lights make bugger all difference anyway.

It you search this site you'll find a guide to changing them also a thread where people have drilled the bottom of the casings from outside the bumper to let them breath and clear - the holes can't be seen.

I had to change mine because the reflectors had gone brown. Easy job on a mid rise lift; wheel off and extract via the lower access flap.
