Having 2 vowels I guess there are 4 possible pronunciations:
Long A, Long O
Long A, Short O
Short A, Short O
Short A, Long O

Personally I always have pronounced it Short A, Long O...In other words:
VAN (like in minivan) OS (pronounced like the letter O)

Am I wrong ?

A lot of thought given to this it seems.

I’ve always thought it was Van and os as is ostrich.

As its actually a German abbreviation for :
VAriable NOckenwellen Steuerung

It should probably be pronounced "Wanos" - just saying.

'V' usually just pronounced like a British 'F' - but there are sometimes cases where it's closer to the British 'V' in some words (listen to the two different usages in Volkswagen and Variable Nockenwellensteuerung below).

'W' always seems to be pronounced as a 'V' (as in folksvagen) (click to hear)

Vah-ree-ab-leh nocken-wellen-stoyer-rung (click to hear)

Vary-abul cam-shahft con-trohl (click to hear)

I pronounce VANOS the same way as the Old-Duckman..."Van-Oss" (click to hear)

The guy in the X8R instruction video kept pronouncing it Vane-Oss

Did my head in

However was a great video!!

VERY boring 3 hour teleconference - I'm only needed for 5 minutes, but I don't know which 5 minutes :headbang:

Now pronounce Aluminium...... :P
Depends whether you want it with the American spelling too?

Try pronouncing acetaminophen (or paracetamol for the UK readers) - any any of the complex compound we use at work :P
