How to get the most from a 35IS test drive?

Ya see I just wouldn't have a Boxster at all...just on the wrong side of camp ..

Cayman....

Oh yes ..

Tyres will & do help reduce some of the E89 failings but don't expect a longer testdrive to give you the drama & theatrics that a ZM offers before you're even off the cul de sac  totally different machines & to be fair both have their merits .
I'm a massive ZM fan but always accept they themselves aren't without flaws or weakness
I'm enjoying getting to know my 35i & making it my own with a few tweaks but its by no means the same ownership experience offered with the S54 or the 3.0Si .

You've summed it up very well. As I mentioned above, the Z4M was indeed flawed, but I enjoyed it for that and would forgive all when you got the S54 going.

Will look at the F type or Boxster S next, but not until the depreciate a little further. Both seem special enough to justify a 40th birthday present in a few years

Nice write up gwatson.....I will just keep an eye on it and when Vardys reduce it too £20k, I will make my move....

I think think that would be fair money for it. The service book didn't have any stamps in it and 3 previous owners. They're going to get back to me on the service history once investigating further and if they could put a BMW warranty on it rather then a Vardy one.

Chassis number is WBALM120X0J057723 if you want to check the spec online. Just seems to have Pro Nav, no other decent options that I could see.

Wow, no service stamps.....Id be running a mile....

Actually doesnt sound like the car has a whole lot going for it.... BMW warranty would be a must, but if its never been serviced, theres no way BMW would allow a warranty extension....3 owners in 3 years is also a bit odd, cant believe none of them got it serviced!

I will keep an eye on it........if the price was right.... :?

Do they have service books.

Its all done electronically through the idrive isnt it?

My e89 has a service book, info is also stored electronically through the key so the dealer can tell you even how much fuel is in the car when they plug it in!

I wonder if a Merc AMG V8 would be better suited. It's dynamically no better than an E89 (maybe even a bit worse) but you have the delightful engine note. Auto box will feel very lazy after the DCT though.

I was going to say that a lot of older cars that are still serviced at BMW miss stamps regularly because the computer automatically write data to the service computer... Wasnt sure if the E89 had wither or both as it was in the middle of the transition.

The C63 AMG has a double clutch gearbox after 2011

So it does. A lot of car for the money... https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/mercedes-benz/amg/mercedes-c63-amg-c63-amg-7g-tronic--huge-spec/7419977

A young lady at my Gym had one of these but got rid last month. She doesnt drive it too hard, but in 18 mths ownership has never seen more than 17mpg average out of a tank.

Why not ?

It's got a 6.2 V8 engine that produces 500 bhp+

If it was a 3.0 with 250 bhp that averaged over 34mpg it would be marvellous

I bought a 35is 3 days ago.

I had 2 Z4MC before that but got sick of the hard and noisy car. I only had them as sunday drivers but maby I'm getting old (33)..

Anyway. I wanted something fast and Comfy and couldn't be happier. It is also much more good looking IMO.
It does have ESS stage 1 so it has around 400HP so fast enough :)

Yes it is not as "fun" do drive if you want a manual. Now I can concentrate more of the driving and surroundings and enjoying the car more.

Negative: Its pretty quiet so in manual mode I find it hard to hear when to shift. With my previous Supersprint Race system I was easy to know when to shift ;)

But as a nice cruiser I find the car perfect and that was what I was looking for now.

Oh yes the engine and power are awesome but I'd probably only get on average 10mpg as I have a heavy right foot

Looks great!!

That was my exact issue, I couldn't tell from the engine noise of I was in 5th or 3rd, really odd sensation. Can't think of any cars I've experienced that in, never mind a "sports car".

Enjoy though, sounds like the 35is suits you more than the ///M
