How to get remote boot release?

I Have a coupe, just recently got it and can't get the boot to release from the key without first opening the central locking which seems crazy. Reading the manual I think it says I need to get BMW dealer to programme it if it is not working is this right? Also has the previous owner set it up this way or do they come out the factory like this for the UK market?
 
Think it comes out the factory this was as it's how mine works although on both my previous 3 series I had it programmed to open without unlocking the car.

OK thanks for the feedback, I'll get the dealer to change it, but why the hell would you not want to open the boot on it's own when you have a button on the key fob to do it? Is it just an excuse for BMW to charge you money to change it?
 
There is a chance you could lock you keys in the boot if you don't unlock the car first which is why I believe it's programmed this way by default.

I guess so never thought about that, in retrospect maybe I should leave it as is then :o
