How to get a cable from boot into centre console

HI Chaps

Just bought myself a 2003 Z4 3.0l

Very pleased, great drive and looking forward to getting a few miles under the my belt in it.

I have an annual Europe trip coming up in a couple of weeks.

This year 4 of us are going for a play in our cars into France / Germany Switzerland. Its always a great laugh and generally good driving.

We all have CB's to keep in communication with each other (think Top Gear abuse...)

I need to get the CB Aerial cable from the boot into the back centre console where the CD multi changer is as that is where the CB radio is located. The CB slots perfectly just above the CD changer unit so is completely hidden when the console is closed.

I was going to drill a discreet hole at the back of the console through into the boot space to allow the cable to pass.

Any body know if this is a problem area to drill, or is it just a simple bulkhead between the boot ? or does anybody know of an alternate route into this space.

Thanks in advance :D

Welcome David,,
There's definitely an existing pathway through with out drilling. (I'm 95% sure there is )
...but we're not telling you until you get some pics of your new Zed up with an intro !!!!

Just pull the carpet back and pull the large storage pods out too behind the seats and have a poke around. At worst you can go under/around the parcel shelf, I would think ?

No need whatsoever to drill. As above follow the carpet up to where the rear of the centre storage is and you'll find access.

Have to do a lot of interior dismantling though to get the centre storage box out of the way.

As you look into the boot there is a passage on the right hand side which runs into the storage box/speaker area behind the driver seat. If you pop the cover of this off (mine has speakers, not sure about yours!) you can then pull the cable into the cabin. To run it to the centre console you undo the 3 screws st the bottom of this area and you can feed the cable under he trim and tuck alongside the centre console into the driver footwell. From there just feed up to where you want to mount it.

I recently did this to fit a Bluetooth module and t was quite easy.

1. Put roof fully down
2. Pull either seat forward
3. Pop the rubber grommet seal off the corner bit of where hardtop joins.
4. Go into the boot and pull the corner of carpet back close to that area
5. Push/pull your wires through the space into the cabin
6. Either run wires along the door sill tuck under the plastic trim or run along bottom of the plastic rear speaker surround

Its how my amp and subwoofer was wired to my head unit at front by audio shop no drilling just a little stick to push/pull wire through

going be doing this myself this weekend if it's dry to run the svideo cable for a rear came through to the headunit
