Bored of waiting for friend to put in appearance and not driving car in the meantime, so am planning to switch off the light and then have a go at cleaning the MAF myself. I have tried doing a search on how to do it, but have come up with nothing. Can someone point me in the right direction, or if there is no right direction, give me an idiot's guide of how to do it ? I know nothing about engines, but am really good at following instructions !

GULP... watched video, don't like idea of needing proper tools for the job and using knife and plyers instead. Think I will just switch off light and see if it happens again, and if it does take it to garage to sort it. Can't keep on waiting on friend !
My MAF starting playing up the other month, depending on which version you have they are either £25 - 30 or over £200. mine was typically the over £200 version as its got a hot wire in (4 pin connection) ended up getting a second hand one for fabdirect for just over £100.
Symptoms - eratic idling and hesitates on accelaration.

Friend works for car parts company and can get me one for £55.50. Fingers crossed though, light had not come back on.

Before you buy new maf , get some maf cleaner and clean yours .It's 10-15min job and don't required any special tools or skills.

I cleaned my MAF at the weekend with this stuff from Halfords, easy 15 min job, had no problems.
