How to cancel selling an Ebay item?

Hi
Easy enougfh to cancel an item IIRC go log in and under 'My Ebay' select the item and from a drop down box end the sale. It asks for a reason
I usually let items run and can't recall ever cancelling as 1) you lose Ebay protection selling, 2) people try off board to get the price low and can then simply not buy leaving you to start again, 3) it's against ebay rules and 4) the best price comes in the last 6 seconds

Cheers - will have a look. Don't think i will cancel but have had three emails asking to buy for cash right away and had thought about it. I also changed the listing from 5 days to 3 but didn't realise it was from the point of listing so it only has one day left and now it won't let me change it back - I reckon ebay is overly complicated!

I wouldn't worry about that. Short listings are good because people making snap purchasing decisions often pay more. Also people want instant gratification, so will be more likely to set their minds on winning an auction that is ending soon.
As for selling outside of eBay, the main risk would be the buyer backing out after you pull the auction. With something like a set of wheels where, due to the size, you would expect the buyer to pick them up, there's no other risks really and you'll avoid the substantial eBay and Paypal fees. If an eBay seller is near me, I'll always offer cash-on-collection outside eBay, as it means I get my items without paying postage and without messing around with auctions and they get to save on all the fees. For high-value items, just arrange to meet somewhere busy so you know they're not going to try anything funny...
Hi Spandex. I think you editted the quote in your post and ended up looking as if a comment about shortening the sale is attributed to me, that isn't. I made a very different point, but no matter.
I agree with all you say re selling off board, reduced fees, etc. but at the end of the day all selling of this type is a gamble for best price, smooth hassle free transaction, etc.

I think my problem is that I just miss the good old days of classified ads. You find something you want nearby, you take cash, meet a real person with the goods you're after and you buy them. I'm a big fan of eBay and internet shopping in general, but it's impossible to get ripped off (assuming you don't just get mugged) if you see an item in the flesh then hand over cash. And as a seller, you walk away with cash in your hand and no paypal disputes or bounced cheques.
