how to buy your first Z4

Greetings, just purchased my first Z4 Roadster while on the way to homebase for paint :D Heres my story.
Yesterday Sunday 15th August my girlfreind wanted to go to homebase for some polycell base paint to cover cracks, it just happened to be right by Scottall BMW dealer. As it was a sunny morning I suggested we just have a look on their forecourt and browse the cars 8) Now keep in mind I drive a astra estate company car and my better half has a insignia company car....As i walked the line this gleaming Z4 looked at me like an abandoned doberman, I had to stop and take a closer look :) Now I have always liked the look of these as they overtake my 1300 diesel estate but never had a close up, I could'nt help myself it was like a magnet..powerfull looking but in a sleek way, silver with black leather, 14000 miles 55 plate FBMW service... then I heard these magical words leave her mouth "wow thats gorgeous"..Thank you lord!! I said "perhaps we could sit in it" :? I strolled into the quiet showroom a little humbled by all these new beamers with the big price tag and me in my boardies and t shirt, the very smart gentleman asked if he could help, perhaps thinking I wanted my surf board waxing? " was it possible to have a look inside the Z4" yes certainly would you like a test drive..gulp, I thought he's just humouring me. Anyway down went the roof in a blink, he explained the car to me and he drove it off the forecourt still telling me all about the car.It was my turn, nervously i sat in the drivers seat adjusted the many seat adjusters, I thought ive never known a seat with so much adjusment..Off I drove..This was very dangerous as i instantly felt at home and WANTED IT :D Drove back to the show room and coaxed my better half to drive it...She came back with the biggest smile on her face.We were hooked..YES we collect the Z4 on Thurs 16th Aug. Oh we did then visit homebase for those wondering!
Please can anyone advise on nice mods, not boy racer but subtle one's that improve this car if thats possible, comes with lovely alloys but no idea what they are called, infact I don't know anything about thes cars apart from I LOVE IT! Oh I do love my partner as well.

Welcome. We need pictures ASAP after you collect the car on Thursday. What options are fitted in your Zed? Is it a 2.0i, 2.5i/3.0i, SE or Sport?

 Great first post.. Love it
Subtle Mods Carbon fibre badges, Eibachs springs, Debadge.

Welcome along to the forum, and you will be pestered for Pics so would post some up when you get a chance.

Lovely story :)

Well as far as nice mods go, depends how far you're willing to go! Mine's a 55 plate too and I've made loads of little changes like clear indicators, red spot rear lights, smaller gearstick/knob, smaller aerial... Or performance type things like removing the clutch delay valve, upgraded ebc brakes, installing cruise control.

Some people here can tell you how to strip the engine and put it back together blindfolded! So you're unlikely to come unstuck.

Its sunny out at the moment so hopefully the sun stays out for you when it arrives!!

welcome - sounds similar to the events when I bought mine nearly 4 years ago :D

enjoyed every minute since :driving:

Welcome, are you sure we're not related  I've bought a couple of cars while running "errands"

Hi everyone, thank you for enjoying my purchase story, you make me feel like an oldie already. The car itself is standard 2.0 SE from what ive read today, seems odd buying a model I know very little about but with such low mileage and a years full warranty from dealer I think it's all good?
A couple of questions...Does the dtc button make much difference? I only drove it on,the sales guy seemed to think best left alone? Is it fairly simple to have a ipod input added to stereo? Anyone advise on good car cover as it wont be used daily. Are the run flat tyres ok? anyone had any dramas with them?
cheers

Hi and welcome, guess you mean Thursday 19th not 16th :poke:

Anyway most important mod is the stubby  , to be followed by a shorter knob.

Ipod is easy just depends how much integration you want, Aux in being the cheapest giving a 3.5mm jack input.

Hi, yep Thurs your right, brains a bit confused, I even mistake a tin of paint these days for Z4's
Stubby? is that the aerial? Shorter Knob? Not sure if the missus will be happy with that one
Aux for ipod, seen a thread that suggest's using a kit meant for mini? is this the best option? Dont want to start carving up the dash and making a mess of it.

Cheers

Hi, re the removal of CDV(sound like an old hand at this) :) mines a 2.0SE 95yr, when I drove it it seemed extremely smooth on pulling away?could it have been addressed by bmw or perhaps the previous owner has removed it? I have read the thread on CDV removal. Only drove it for approx 20 mins, would I notice drastic change.

Thanks again.

I didnt notice on the test drive, only as I got more used to the car...

BMW refuse to acknowledge it as a problem so are not that helpful. I asked them if it could be removed - 'No it is part of the clutch!' was the reply
