How to assign radio station to one of the 1-8 buttons

I thought I knew how to do this, but maybe not....

I am at the Home screen on the display.
I want to store a Sirius XM radio channel. I switch to Media, then Sirius, then find the channel I want (i.e., channel 16). When switch to Media, the display changes of course; no more Home screen.

To save that radio channel 16, I believe I do that by pressing and holding one of the eight buttons until I hear a beep. Let's say button 2.
I already have assigned buttons 1 and 3-8 to other radio stations. When I press each of them, my display changes (or stays) at the Home screen, which is what I want.

However, when I press button 2, the display changes to Media, Sirius. I don't want that - I want to stay on my Home screen. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

I have tried to figure this out reading the BMW manual, which only gave me a whooper of a headache. Sure hope someone can un-confuse my brain today! :headbang:

I am not sure you are doing anything wrong, I have a button assigned to Apple CarPlay and that does the same

Thanks.....but doesn't make me encouraged. My car went off warranty in July, 6 weeks ago. I am wondering if something is wrong with the electronic "brain" on this thing and perhaps it knows it is time to go screwy. Sigh. :(

I wonder if you are down in to app specific actions rather than something at the OS level. Maybe you can't program that on to a button.

Possible with some weird update BMW did. For the preceding five years with 2-3 BMWs, we were always able to program the buttons as we wished. We did have to be sure to be in the "correct" mode (Nav, Com, Media, etc) to do that....but either the procedure has changes or I have forgotten how to do it. It could go either way.......getting old is a bitch, y'kno.

Can't you just use voice control and ask the car to play the radio station you want?

I could, and sometimes do that in the winter if the top is up. But 95% of the time I drive with the top down, and my car can't hear me. So I have gotten out of the habit of using my voice to ask for things as it's just too noisy with the wind, etc.

I fiddled around with the car today when I parked. I have cracked the code. Not sure if it's always been this way or something in the software changed with the last update:

New procedure
I am at the Home screen on the display.
I want to store a Sirius XM radio channel. I switch to Media, then Sirius, then find the channel I want (i.e., channel 16). AT THIS POINT I NEED TO PRESS THE ROUND BUTTON ON THE CONSOLE TWICE (I HAD BEEN DOING THAT JUST ONCE WHEN I SELECTED THE CHANNEL.)

THEN, I PRESS THE (1-8) BUTTON I WANT, 2.

Now when I press the Home screen to test, press a preset button other than 2, then press 2 - now it stays on the Home screen!

Eureka, problem solved....until maybe the next time BMW does a reload of software.....or I forget how to do it..... :!:

Which round button do you mean?
I have 1 set for saved stations so it always switches to list mode.
2 is set for CarPlay.
3 tyre pressures.
4 sound settings.
Etc.
