How things escalate !

Took our beloved VW campervan in for its MOT last week - we really look after it and for several years its passed with no advisories - this time failed on one or two minor things and advised that the brakes were getting a bit low ( not surprising in view of it being 23 years old ) . So told them to renew the brakes and fit a new temperature sensor as the temp gauge packed in a couple of years ago. when they removed the pads they literally fell apart and they had to renew pads, discs. bearings etc. Then changed sensor but discovered the bleed nut on radiator was seized up so they couldn't bleed the system - now I 've had to order a new radiator and our poor old bus is still down at the garage.

Was hoping to take it out this Bank Holiday weekend so will have to go posing in the zed instead - bit of a contrast and slightly faster !

Saga continues - new radiator fits a treat but still warning light flashes - consensus is gauge is up the creek - and now radiator fan has packed in ! Tried everywhere but you can't get a new one - don't make em anymre - so have to resort to fleabay - opting for an aftermarket temperature gauge - another week at least in garage awaiting delivery of gauge etc with no guarantee it'll work - wishing I'd just had the few bits done for the mot and left the rest ! Cost so far £600+ without the new temperature gauge - blimey - its like owning an M !!

That is the way things go sometimes - nightmare for you, but you'd rather have it all working given how much you love it, right ?

obviously not a proper VW campervan - non of those new fangled radiator thingies on them
:poke:

Gov.....can you post a pic please....would love to see it
I did post some pictures a liile while ago - but by popular demand here they are again ! Last of the engine in the back jobbies - ultra modern with 5 gears and a radiator ( alas without a working fan at the mo' )
We've had it 6 years - only had 2 previous owners and came with all documented history ! Embarassing decals down to my wife !!

Well after 5 weeks we finally got our van back today ! To be fair all the bits have been done - the time it took was due to sourcing parts and identifying the overheating problem. Our van has:
New MOT
New Radiator and temp sensor
New front discs and pads
New aftermarket temperature gauge cut into dash ( looks good )
New blower motor ( having to take dash out ! )
Bearings and gaitors.

Total cost £850 ( parts and many hours labour )

Was it worth it - yes !! Down by the sea this weekend for a brew and fry up !
