OK, last post on this---I never said the USA is best at everything, I'm simply saying that we're the equal. And yes, I get offended easily when I know my parents worked all their lives as blue-collar workers and for someone who doesn't know me from Adam's house cat, but still tells me my parents weren't up to snuff......well, you do the math.

I never picked out your parents individually. The fact that you would even get offended by the notion that average Japanese workers' work ethics and dedications exceed those of average American workers really goes to show how little you know about it. How many Americans do you know of that would work +20 non-paying overtime hours each week, weeks after weeks, months after months, years after years, without complaning and actually take pride in their devotions to their companies? That's a standard norm in Japan (as well as a few other Asian countries). That's how the workers are expected to be and how they expect of themselves. And that's just one example It really isn't a stretch to say they're expected to literally devote their lives and souls to work before familes and whatnot. I'm not saying Japanese are better than Americans. I'm saying there's simply a cultural difference. Companies employ more stringent policies and have less tolerance for errors and mistakes and don't hesitate to hand out penaliztions when mistakes are made. It doesn't happen in USA because you would have unions filing grievances and law-suits all day long and say hey the workers are leaving at 5PM and not staying for an extra hour without being compensated - and there's nothing wrong with that. Like I said, it's simply a cultural difference.

GP20 Are you Asain or just a staunch defender of their culture? My gosh, there are hard working people in all cultures and quite frankly its not always a good thing. Look at the suicide rates in Japan. And don't they always try to emulate us :) Can't we all just get along? And isn't this a thread highjack? :tumbleweed:

Quite interesting... I see similar discussions about place of assembly & reliability of product at other forums. One forum I follow had heated discussions of whether or not South African vs. German assembled M-Bs are of the same quality. Unless there is solid numbers to back one side, all opinions stated are speculations only.

Bottom line this issue is more about corporate culture vs. societal culture. If a company has a solid foundation for their manufacturing processes, instills proper corporate culture and follows through with effective QA programs, then you're going to get reliable products. Failure in any means crap products. :(

That being said... the pride in me still wants a "German" made car.

End Threadjack.

My car must have been built on a Wednesday or Thursday, since there have been very few issues since I took possession 2 years ago.

I still have a couple of rattles though. :(

Most cars in the UK are made by multi-cultural workforces anyway.

Just don't touch anything that comes out of Longbridge :P

From personal experience and from the previous owner's maintenance files, very, very reliable. At 41,000 miles, nothing but regular maintenance and 1 recall. However, it's never been out in foul weather since new, so that most certainly helps also.

This thread is about Z4 reliabilty,

Dont mind off topic if its humerous or interesting, but not personal,,

here we go again

About mine.

2.5i, 2003, now showing 61 000 km (37 903,6427 miles according to Google... :p).
The only thing i have to report is the "grinding" noise of the starter in cold weather. Otherwise, nothing to declare.

had mine for 1 year 1 month now, from 2000 miles to nearly 27000 miles. Reliability = perfect so far, and I enjoy it today as much as I did when I first bought it.

Bought mine new in May 2004, 41,000 miles on the clock, it's a Sterling Grey 2.5SE, 17" Double Spoke's, Sports Suspension and various other options, needed to have the inline coils changed under warranty, the wipers play up on intermittant (common problem by all accoiunts) and I'm about to change the coil springs to Eibach Pros replacing the broken BMW ones another common problem.
Apart from that it's been totally reliable, I keep thinking of changing it for something else, but then wash & polish it go for a drive, park it up somewhere and lookat it and think why do I want to change such a great looking car!

For those of you that are worried, check out CoolZ4's thread... http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8695

He just went over 200K...
