How old are you and am I too young to drive G29?

That doesn't look too bad

That’s fine, when he gets in from school I’ll tell him the Z4 is back on the cards as a kind benefactor thinks it’s not too bad and has offered to cover it for him

Not to young by a long way, I was driving rag tops in my 20's even when the kids came along we kept one for fun days out without them.

Now we have an e89 and the grand kids love it - it may have to go if she does buy a four seater rag top to take the little ones but will always have a very as a fun car somewhere - miss my Elise which I had in my late 30's

Most of your mates wish they could have your car rather than their typical 1 series BMW - let them drive it for 10 mins and see what they say.

I was 35 when i bought mine, i dont think you're too young. There are a lot of younger people driving G29's , but I think most of them are on facebook or instagram :)

Aren’t those things used for contacting customer service and complaining? :tumbleweed:

It's like a telegram, but much cheaper per word. :) (Also a lot faster)

Mind your own business, and yes! :poke:

Honestly! Kids today have no manners :D

Never to young or to old to do anything that you enjoy. Bought my Z4MR aged 49 after my FIAT Coupe 20VT blew up one final time.
That was almost 11 years ago and it still brings a smile and a feeling of slight fear, every time I open up the garage door. Best car I ever bought. Not sure why it it so special , but I think it 's because it just about the limit of what I can handle. :D :driving:

Being scared just proves your alive. So push on and enjoy living..

Buy what you want when you want it....balls to anyone esle, your money your choice, and the life is too short thing is really really true. :driving:

I've just turned 55 and had an MR2 since I was 28, Ive heard all the clichés you can imagine...!

I thought the scared thing might be just me being mental....!!

I bought my first E89 at the age of 63, then had two more E89’s.

Now driving a G29 at the age of 74, I don’t see what age has to do with it at all, never thought about it until this thread came up!

the younger folk like an E85/E86 because they're a better sportscar than the E89, which is more of a GT... :P

i bought my E85 for track use, wouldnt consider an E89 for track work. and a G29 is still fairly soft from what i understand, wouldnt really consider that either even if it was a lot cheaper.

This.
And judging by the comedic reaction to my slightly less than complimentary comment of how the G29 has become a bloated, bland GT as the model has been diluted down from the original 'sporty roadster' E85/6 format in order to cater for a different target market, I would concur that yes, perhaps you don't quite fit into the G29 target demographic both from an age and 'end user requirement' perspective. But that's being presumptious; maybe you do like a softer ride with the added benefit of superfluous gadgets which will all fail at some point rendering them useless or expensive to repair when the warranty runs out.

I was accused of being 'jealous' and having an 'abject hatred of the G29' when I made that comment about the G29 being bloated and bland. Hilarious.
If I was given the choice of picking a brand new E85, E89 and G29 I would pick the E85 every time. I've driven all models btw. The E89 was soft, the G29 was just like driving a 4 series cabrio or even my E93, but with no back seats.
:P

Let's be honest, if you want lightweight and agile and have anything that begins with a "Z", you've bought the wrong car.

An E85 owner calling the G29 overweight is a bit like Boris Johnson calling John Prescott fat.

[ref]Chris_D[/ref], Hey you are entitled to your opinion, having now owned each variant and have lived with the G29 for a little, I can say that it doesn't feel remotely similar to a 4 series convertible (been there, done that too). I would also say that it's getting back to the feel of an E85, just with a bit more space. The wheelbase is actually smaller than the e85 but has a wider track making a squarer set up which gives better cornering agility. It certainly drives better than the e89, yet it's more comfortable and quieter than both predecessors.

I had no issue with your views, it was just not very helpful or useful given the purpose of the thread and just came across as petty and juvenile

Admittedly an E85 isn't an ArielAtom, I know this because I owned one for 5 years and taking the E85 around the Nurburgring was like driving a bus in comparison!
However the weight difference between an E85 3.0i and a gadgeted-out G29 M40i is like having Boris sitting on your bonnet and a Prescott sitting on your boot! And that's probably being generous in estimating the combined weight of these 2 fat b@stards.

Chirs is probably right about the gadgets though. Current owners may have moved on, but one day it's the superfluous gadgets that will render many of these cars and their counterparts, across the industry, uneconomical to maintain.

I was comparing more with "sporty roadsters" like the MX-5, MR2 Mk3, Elise, VX220 etc. The E85 is 30% heavier than all of them. The Z4 has always been the "bloated" option...

Fine if you can fit into all of the above. Alas I can't fit into any, bar the MX5. Which is one reason why we have one of those parked in front of my beloved fat old E85.
