I'm a freelance programmer, so I keep my own schedule.

How did you get into that? *thread high jack alert*

Sort of a natural outcome of events really. Joined a startup in 1997 (before startups were cool) as sole developer. Turned around a crap prototype into something that worked. Got taken over in 2000 & parent company mothballed product and made us redundant in 2001.

Sooo, took the fairly brave move of starting a new company & bought back the IPR of the product for £1. (Brave because we got married, bought a house and were expecting our son in that year too).

I changed the focus of the product, sold a few and I'm still here :)

Glad it all worked out!

4-6 days/week at the gym - 75 mins weightlifting/bodybuilding.
...Oh, and does mucking out & stables duties 1st thing in the morning & the occasional horse ride count too ... ?

Mucking out the stables certainly counts.

Pushing weights doesn't though.

My quads after heavy squat day say otherwise ;)

If I wanted a lot of exercise I wouldn't own a car! :P

Once small pup transforms into large hound it will be a good excuse to reacquaint myself with some long walks. :)

Walk pups twice a day about a mile each time
And do training in the pool 6 times -i'm a old man competitive masters swimmer albeit on the slow side -fly and free are my main strokes

Jealous, I can't pool swim any more due to allergies. Used to love my pool swimming, though I was never competitive, nice and warm and great training for the winter surf. :D

What age group and times?
Old man age group :55-60y - 39s for 50 fly ; 34s 50 free ; 1-31 100 fly , 1-16 100 free -ie fairly slow even for my age group
i know a wee bit about allergy -if you have allergic asthma /rhinitis , then the chlorine metabolites which sit as agas layer on the pool surface are airway mucosal senstiters -this can be obviated by taking oral allergic mediator blockade with cetirizine and montelukast +/- as inhaled /intranasal cromoglycate
My son was a US NCAA Div 1 swimmer who had both conditions and managed to train for 20h per week for 4 years on this cocktail of drugs -didnt make him go any faster though

Had a quick Google on the College system, NCAA Div1, top of the shop, fine achievement. What does he swim?

My Lad Ed is also semi retired from swimming, at grand old age of 23  He made the Olympic trials in 2012, but injury and a wage packet have meant a reassessment of priorities since then. He's a sprinter swims late 25s for 50 back and will hopefully finally break into the 24s for 50 fly at the SC county champs tomorrow.

A lot of swimmers knocking about then! I'm captain of the RAF swim team. I'm doing 59 seconds for a 100 back 26 seconds for a 50. 24 50 free too.

Good times do you swim the nationals?

I used to years ago alas no more. I'm 27 now and full time in the RAF so just doing it for fun now. I have the power and speed just not the fitness anymore. 200s are a no go these days haha.

Joined a gym last year and went abut 4 times a week 1 hour a time, felt ok but got bored after 7 months, these days if i wake up and get thoughts about the gym i just close my eyes until the feeling passes .......... I plan to get on my mountain bike when it gets warmer.

200IM was his #1 event , also swam 100 back /100fly -he's not been in the pool for a year now since he gradauted last year and showing no interest of going back .He peaked at 15/16y and that got him a scholarship worth $250K which paid for most of his education over there .
Those times from Ed arent too shabby even now -good thing with sprinters is they dont have to spend so much time in the pool -its gym work which really counts .

Pretty common age for swimmers to stop to be honest. You know yourself how much work is required and the 200IM is the hardest race in the pool. IMHO Ed was still motivated by the 2012 Olympic dream at that age. He was training with some incredible talent back then, so the pain was shared, one or two are now top line internationals and still really nice blokes.

No records at counties today, but won all his races and brought the cups back home again. :D Couple more races tomorrow.
