How much would underside of car refurb cost?

Hi, I am probably one of the highest milage coupes around, so when I took my coupy in for rear wheel bearings, I got an sort of expected phone call.

Although still sound, all the suspension bushes, diff carrier and sway bar bushes should be replaced. Also at the same time, the diff will be refurbed and I will also replace both front wheel bearings...

There was a slight leak in the oil pan gasket, so that's being done too.. So pretty much the whole underside of the car is being refurbed with new bushes/parts.

So pretty much this....

Rear subframe bushings (front)
Rear subframe bushings (rear)
Front differential bushing
Rear differential housing
Front differential flange
Rear camber arms
Rear trailing arms bushings
Rear wheel bearings
Front wheel bearins
Engine oil pan gasket
Engine valve cover gasket
Spark plugs profile gasket (if needed)
Front swaybar endlinks
LSD differential oil (1 box)

And turns into this...

Rear subframe refurbishment
Front wheel bearings replacement
Engine oil pan gasket repalcement
Front differential flange replacement
Alignment

So that should sort out pretty much the whole car.. New suspension coming next year, so nothing there yet..

Any idea the kind of cash I would be looking at?

Anything I may have missed that should be looked at? The engine mounts and trans mounts were replaced by the PO only 10k ago. What sort of price including labour for this massive job?

Any info or insights would be great guys.

That's a big overhaul for that mileage :o Wonder if the heat has anything to do with it? Do you drive it like you stole it? :driving:
 
eerrr ,... I wouldnt book any meals out for a while !on the plus side it should be a vast improvement in the ride, would be wise to bite the bullet really and have shocks and springs whilst its in bits. price wise at a rough guess I reckon anything less than 2k is a bonus. keep us posted :driving:

The quote is closer to 3k pounds, not too bad considering the diff and carrier are being overhauled too.

The heat has possibly something to do with it, but as I said initially, the car was still ok, just not the way it's meant to be. I'd rather invest a few k now rather than the car to be unsafe and have to buy a whole new diff/carrier and sub frame.

I'll be hanging onto this car for a long time, so it's worth getting back to spec.

Interestingly enough, I had inspection 2 done only 4 months ago, and they didn't mention any thing about said bushes/parts. It's only when I went to get an alignment done at a desent shop that the guy said the bushes are rather at the end of thier life. (Couldn't get alignment in spec) ..

But yeah to get the car back to safe spec, it's a little investment for a safer drive. ; )
(Or so I am telling myself to get sleep at night. ;)
 
I'm doing similar next year, but mine is in addition to the planned suspension/brake upgrades (had a new diff under warranty, and new oil seals very recently).

Haven't asked a price...yet...but I know that at 100k+ miles it'll all be past its best, and it will only be a small portion of the total bill :thumbsup:
 
Agreed, I've budgeted for new springs (h&r sports springs) and bilstein sport shocks front and rear. Just couldent get that past the bank manager this round ; D
 
Swapping out bushes isn't that technical and once completed getting it set back up is important. But diff reconditioning needs to be done correctly. If you have a good mechanic then that's the most important...

With a the bits off it might be worth washing the underneath off and respraying with stone guard.
 
I hear ya man, my Indi shop is taking care of everything, they have a good reputation and they just do bimmers, so they are very proficient at what they do. So hopefully expecting a good result. I could have done said bushes myself, but rebuilding the subframe and diff carrier and then setting it all up is probably a bit beyond me. Not to mention that the diff needed to be rebuilt. Another couple of days before I can pick it up....
 
Shame you missed the diff carrier I have for sale... Freshly powder coated with new bushes and rubbers. Its still available if you want it?

Well I actually have a good diff carrier, just needed new bushes.. ;D glwus though. :) by the way for what it's worth, the hellrot looks rather suburb on the coupe. ; )
