How much would I be able to get for my Z4MC alloys?

I'd think you could get £600 every day of the week, if not as previous guys have said keep them to put on if/when you sell the car, you will always get good money back for the M3/CSL's :)

I'm after a second set soon ish and am not put off by black. Let me know if you decide to sell. Where abouts in East Mids?

Because all Z4Ms came with them and they don't look great on the Z. So they isn't as much interest, but CSLs are a magnesium alloy so they are lighter and they look better.

The magnesium part's a myth that's been perpetrated by the motoring press for years Tom.

I'm just off the A1 between Stamford and Grantham? A friend with an M3 has said he'll sell me his wheels as he wants CSL style, so I might have a set soon. Then just need to work out if its worth selling these or keeping for winter wheels and to sell the car on?

I weighed a spare set of CSLs I was selling to prove they were genuine to a buyer iirc they were abou 10kg at the front and 11.5 on the rear. The 18s are definitely heavier, could have been in my head but I was sure I could feel a difference. I bought back a set of the original wheels as spares/winters and are they were in very good condition paid about £350 with 2 good tyres.

Dont look good??? Tom come on! With a low profile tyre and spacers they look very nice. I think they suit the roadster more than the Coupe somehow though.
For me five spoke alloys always look good in most derivatives, twin five spokes are even better imo :) But as a general rule always an odd number of spokes.

Totally of topic but a bit to do with alloys :D - the alloys on the Mcclaren mp4 are VERY nice

Well come on for an M car they are a very basic bland 5 spoke design. They dont really make the Z look particularly special or make it stand out and they are small too. With the OEM suspension they look tiny even with lowering springs... they look silly with the huge 40-45 profile tyres then you put lower profile tyres on them and they look even smaller! lol They do suit the roadster better but still dont like them

Personal preference of course! But not aesthetic enough for me.

I don't think they are that bad. Lowered suspension, spacered out a bit.... Some benefits too, 18" tyre prices for one :)

Over time I've come to realise that it is the stance that isn't quite right in standard form not so much the wheels.

The CSL has a far better stance.

TBH the tyres price isnt that dissimilar. I think they would look 100% better if they were double dish at the back.

Daz - your absolutely right. The wheels look a lot bigger with a low profile tyre and then spaced out, ceratinly not smaller. Its how you fill the arches.

The twin 5 spoke surely isnt dull, the M6 has it too. Its shows plenty of caliper and looks very 'sports'.
19 inch wheels are just aesthetic overdose to me and unless the car is 5 door size i dont see the need.

I've always liked the 18" Z4M wheel design...

Original ones don't hide anything, i.e. what you see is what you get.

Bit like whether you like a resprayed car or an original one.
Precisely. I'd rather buy a car / set of wheels in original, genuine condition. Respraying panels or refurbing wheels could mean something's been hidden.

No offence to anyone but I think it's astonishing that anyone could argue that the look of the CSL's isn't a huge improvement over the OEM 18's. The effect on the ride and handling is a whole different debate as is the cost of 19's over 18's.

another roadster vs. coupe alike debate, which will never be settled as its down to personal taste - Well at least it drives up ones post count

I must admit I'm not quite getting the whole CSL thing. Sure, nice wheels. But then so are the OEM IMO.

I feel OEM are probably easier (quicker) to clean too ;-)

Well if your car has the OEM springs there is more space between the rubber and the arch with a lower profile so ye they look smaller IMO. In terms of showing calliper.. what calliper are we talking about they are small. I agree they look sporting, but they just dont do the car justice. I think the same of the M6 not a huge fan of them either.

But this is just my opinion. They do look better on the roadster but still don't do it justice. The Z4 generally had a huge amount of time perfecting the geometric lines and the way they flow into one another. You cant say the same for the time spent on the alloys. The CSLs are a good option because it is a way of keeping the OEM look but also a much more aggressive look and stance. People also may say they are common but its probably because you live on the forum. Every Z4M had the OEM alloys so... and I have only seen one Z4M in the flesh with CSLs so far and that was IK's because I wanted to buy them.

I think you mean BMW had a huge amount of time perfecting the lines of the Z4. And then you would probably be refering to Chris Bangle and the BMW approval team. :poke: :D

It does give the car more stance if the car is on lower profile tyres (cars obviously lower) and spaced out - as i said.
If you paint them a dark colour, have balloons for tyres and keep them tucked under the arch they dont look as big or prominent.

I wouldnt say the CSL's are common. far from it. I REALLY love em.

Just that twin 5 spokes are an unquestionable great wheel design, google an image of a ferrari 430 and tell me it would look better with CSL's. Its just a shame, as you say, that we dont have calipers like the 430 to show of :)
