How much for an oil and filter change?

I was in the same boat! I had a two year service and then got the warning for 'Inspection' in 12 months - I checked with my dealer and he confirmed it was the MOT.

The Spark Plugs were changed early weren't they? - From memory, the 3.0 ltr six plugs are changed around the 50k mark???

Mines due its first service next month at 1921 miles  I haven't checked the service book but I will be wanting the brake fluid and antifreeze to be changed anyways as per my Z3 every 2 years regardless of mileage covered.

The brake fluid is a two year service requirement as is the engine oil - but the coolant every two years, why ???

BMW recommends every 4 years on coolant. As for the spark plugs I was thinking that too, but it seems with CBS garages seem to want to change most things every time it's in. It's supposed to be when it's needed. My last car had a service at 14k, garage wanted to change the spark plugs that had just been changed 96 miles earlier due to the coil packs being changed, they also wanted to change the air filter. I'd of at least expected a spark plug change at the second service.

Sparks on the 28i engine are changed at every service apparently. I found this out when mine had it's first service at 17500 miles. I went ballistic at the service desk to be honest.

I did check up while I waited and everything on the net confirms this, although after 2013, the spark plug was modified so should then be every 2nd service.

The joys of BMW service departments. I was told to be grateful it wasn't an M5 V10 which has shorter intervals and again needs new spark plugs every time x10. What fun. Oh and M cars cost loads more to service, apparently.

I would of told them to be grateful for the business as comments like that are not warranted and not to be funny but people who buy M Cars especially new know that servicing is pricey and is usually at short intervals. The reason I did not buy a E46 M3 as a daily driver 7 years ago because I knew it needed a service every 4k, I'd be doing around 1.5k a month and yes you were looking at between 800 to 1200 per service. Now as I do little millage M's are more acceptable.

Those spark plugs are looking cheap now!

What on earth do they do for that sort of cash?

^ Thanks all.

I'm going to follow up the brake fluid issue, after all I have the service pack so cost is irrelevant to me if that's what the BMW specs are. I'd be surprised if they haven't covered themselves but you never know.

As for the next service, yes 12 months from now coincides with first MOT so that makes some sort of sense. However I will probably be part exchanging later this year so it's possibly academic.

I should actually check my Dads service book to see, however those cars were on the old Inspection 1 and Inspection 2 services where everything got changed hence why CBS came in........and nothing actually changed.

Yes dr_john best to just check with them re this, especially if part ex'ing you don't want them to turn around and say you've not got this done so that X's amount off.
