If you are 2 straps short then that will at least match your cylinder count :D

Andy, I've fixed mine with only two straps each side mainly because there was one strap missing when I got my car. It's perfectly OK unless, of course, you plan to do 100mph whilst crossing the Humber Bridge! :D

  -are they difficult to suss out where the straps go?

andysat, I'm in a car show tomorrow and won't have much to do so will try to take some pictures of how they attach unless we get rain which is a possibility tomorrow.

Andy, there appeared to be small gaps where the little bits of metal could go. To be honest when I got the car last September I fixed the windbreaker, tensioned the straps and left it in place over the winter rather than keep removing. Doesn't seem to be a problem with rear view vision even at night with the hood up.

Cheers mate-looking about tinternet that seems to be the general feeling about fitting them, owners who have them seem to just attach wherever,i thought there maybe one of those black and white bmw fitting guides, but cant find one :(

Just fix those metal fittings where you can. As WHL has said I can't imagine it would come off even if you didn't use the straps. It does the job and certainly reduces the wind in the cabin. Mine came free with the car and the previous owner hadn't bothered to use it.

The picture below is an overview of the area.

There is a strap on each side like this and they are easy to fit as the clip just slips up under the trim and you pull snug. IMO this is more than enough to hold the windbreaker in place. I have moved the seat belt out of the way to take this picture.

This is a picture taken thru the rear window and this is a difficult area to get to. Upon close examination there are 4 straps going across the back. 2 of mine I see have been removed and it appear because there was not a good place to attach the 2 on the inside center. So there should be 6 straps in total but as I purchased mine used it had been modified. The picture below is of the left side fitted which is lined up with the left side roll hoop on the outside. The clip slides up under the trim as shown as is pulled snug.
