How many people sorn their cars over winter?

Mine is sorn now, will be out on the drive next weekend (weather permitting) for a 2 day mammoth detailing session, wheels off, polish wax etc etc. and then back into the garage and undercover for the winter.

Just tried to sorn mine only to find the DVLA site is down for maintenance!

Strange I must have sorned mine about the same time as you tried, it was about 8.30pm and it worked fine

Mine's currently (i.e. Sat/Sun/Mon/Wed) being used on a certain track in Germany...it's currently 4ºc here!

The cold weather is great for power, but the track takes an age to dry out between showers...and the car is filthy.

Still, the Michelin SuperSports seem to work well on cold, dry tracks...

Approach to Schwedenkreuz (Swedish Cross aka Megane Corner)...now bone dry:

Approach to the famous compression known as Fucksrohre (Foxhole)...and yes, it is still damp after one of the hourly showers:

ETA: got a little braver over Schwedenkreuz when it was bone dry on Wednesday, so went a teeny bit faster...and really wouldn't want to be going any faster than that with standard brakes (albeit with uprated pads).

Laid up insurance? Vehicle is not covered by a standard policy if it is not taxed

I've checked with my insurance company re this and mine is still insured even though its sorned, they were a bit baffled to be honest as to why it wouldn't be.

Do some research on it. Some insurance companies will try anything to not pay out.
Best thing is, you know your covered mate

Err I have; I have contacted them and have it in plain English via email

Mine is sort now till spring. Bought a CLK 320 for top down in the winter it’s like driving a sofa around in comparison lol..

Sorned mine at the end of October. Kept covered with a car cover until the middle of this week. Now placed in its bed for the winter on ctek trickle charge, full tank and its bed is a Carcoon.
So easy to set up, lay out drive on, zip up and power up. It has 2 12v pc like fans at the front which inflate it. I have been informed it uses around 5p a day

Wow !

Just Wow

No SORN here as the Z is pretty much my daily when I'm not pedalling to work.
And you miss out on some great days, drove up to north Yorkshire yesterday and back down today, 230 miles in crisp cold air and bright autumn sunshine.

SORN applied.

Mine wont be out till at least April/May. I quite like having it in the garage!

Only did 242.8 miles this year!!

I wouldn’t normally and haven’t in previous years (even used to keep my TVRs on the road all year round) but this year the BMW tax is due to expire at the end of this month and I don’t feel like paying £535 just before Christmas, or even half that. I have the Porsche to play with over winter and my friend has offered me his garage, so I’m going to SORN the Z4M this winter. It’s a shame, but I just don’t think I’ll get the use out of it and I don’t want to leave it outside not doing anything for weeks on end.
