How many people sorn their cars over winter?

Never had a policy with that restriction...

Under certain circumstances you're even allowed to drive on the roads without road tax - e.g. you can't tax the car without a valid MOT but you can drive an untaxed and MOT-deficient car to a pre-booked MOT as long as you have insurance.

Yeah, You can drive to and from an MOT station without mot and tax. You are covered for a pull or an accident if the station clarify you were actually booked in.
Unless you have a trade policy, 90% of insurances don’t cover the car unless it’s taxed. I would check your small print. Laid up insurance is specific for sorn vehicles.

No winter driving here, the salt just kills it.
The trusty old Punto will be out next week for another grim winter.

Mine will be used all year round, it’s a weekend toy and plenty of nice clear bright wintry days to be enjoyed.

what do people do when sorn, just leave clean and on a trickle charger, with minimal fuel?

Clean the car and cover with a pair of cotton bed sheets, a maintenance/ trickle charger and a full tank of fuel.

I don’t start the car until it’s ready to go out in the springtime.

pretty much the same, the car is not started unless its used for a minimum of 30 mins.

However what a lovely day me and my son came back early just to go for a lonnngggg drive to no where!

I like to have the option of taking it out so no sorn for me.

That said, if it's wet or has recently been gritted I won't use it, but given a nice sunny day after a good run of dry weather then I'm happy to use it. Just gotta watch those cold tyres!

lovely out their today, unfortunately my phone didn't take the rest of the images properly and the car looks all squashed and weird....

Think one of Matts strut braces would finish that engine bay mate. Mines sold but I reckon you can get him out of retirement

i hear you but.... i kinda like the o.e bits for the bracing.... they have some nice fail safes being into them .

No sorn unless weather that bad and tax runs out

Salt stops me like a slug using my cars
Unless rained for atleast 3 days after
But something about roof down on a fresh day with winter sun on your face ^^,

But let's be honest haha that's not often and the price saved by sorning doesnt factor into my use
But my mazzer stays off road till salts drop also
Though currently I've got the entire back end off it for a sexy refurb ^^ ,

Cheap winter runabout for the salty days and enjoy the Z4M when not. The saving of £40 odd a month is meaningless for me compared to just driving the car when I want to. All in my opinion, do what you want with your car tax of course.

Fail safes?
Lol, we both know the OE are rubbish, flimsy and most aftermarket braces are not offered as a 3 piece kit.
The companies that do don’t cater for the bonnet alarm sensor (fail safe you refer to)?
Mats (machine monkey) brace interferes with nothing.

No minerals to drive the M through the winter months with TC off and sport on

the bonnet alarm isn't a fail safe ..... loooool.
yes fail safes.... like having sections notched so in the event of accident it doesn't transfer loads to the other side..... sometimes it's more than just cosmetics , I believe the stock pieces are best here and offer excellent clearance and look just fine to my eyes. Not everything that shines is gold

Considering SORN this year for the first time. It's not being used much at all at the moment. May have a decision to make in the spring.
