How many people daily drive sound gen mod??

Basically title...

However - I have just done this by removing both bits of foam, then just booted it in 1st in the work car park. HOLY SUGAR it is load as heck.

But I am not sure it's in a good way.

I will keep it for my little blast home later, but I expect to put it back in tomorrow.... I think if I had a my Zed as a track car I would keep it and want it in though.

Today as well though I have actually cut a hole in my airbox.... Will see how that feels as well on the drive home!

That looks as though your allowing your engine to breathe unfiltered air by cutting that hole out the lid? Air intake is below the filter (dirty side) and take off for the engine is above the filter (clean side)
Can you confirm? :?

I'd concur with Rob.
Not clever imo. Expect a knackered MAF at some point....
:o

My daily E86 3.0si has no foam inserts. No issue! I admit on long motorway journeys it can be a little much but great on shorter trips. :D
Unfiltered air is a total no no but guess it's your money/engine :?

Oh dear. I thinks I may have gone and messed up here then guys!

Didn't actually clock that it was going to be effectively unfiltered! There is a mesh on the top but for the small particles you're all very much right in that it'll probably kill the maff at least.

Working on a solution!

Agreed!

Plan is to use a filter on the hole instead of just the mesh! I'll let you guys judge it when it's done...

tbh, i can't see what you're trying to achieve.
is your intention to get more air flowing through the intake? greater volume?
you would also need an equivalent filter on that top hole and ultimately i don't think it's going to make much difference, plus you've borked that airbox now.

Why not just pony up for a K&N cold-air intake or such?

Yes that was the idea and to get some more noise from it.

Didn't go K&N because this was cheaper! But.... it doesn't seem that way now :headbang:

It'll be fineee

I daily drive, only 1 piece out though.tried both too much for me.

Big bit or little bit? I gave it a good thrashing on the way home.. my god it's loud!! Sounds great but totally not OK for DD.

Had mine removed for a while a good few years back but as said it can get annoying and when my brother said it was like being in a souped up Nova it went back in funny thing is I was thinking of having a blast this weekend and taking out for that little extra smile on my face just for the day :D

As for the foam I tried no foam more noise then just the small bit and just the large bit sounds the same as both bits in I now just one piece of foam

I drilled the airbox on my first car when I was 18. (I made sure to drill it on the unfiltered side), all it did was suck in hot air from the engine bay and make the performance even worse. It did sound quite good though.

Well, I am almost 28 and this is my first good car with any power. That power is addictive. It's also the first chance I have had to do any mods! So I decided to experiment and cock it up aha :D

As for the rest of the responses, thank you all. I shall shove some foam back in.... As and when we are allowed outside again!!!
