So as the title suggests wanted to get a feel for how many owners have private registration plates. One thing I've always assumed is if a car has a private plate it's more likely to be owned by an enthusiast. This extrapolating to more likely being on the forum, and subsequently more likely to get a wave! So wanted to get actual results to prove or disprove the above.

I guess the only other variable I'll add is if you're considering or about to put a plate on... just put yes for simplicity's sake :)

Comment or discussion as well!

I have a private plate, which originally I put on an E46 I brought back from Germany, I know its a bit noncy, but I like standing out, plus it masks the age of the car

Same with mine. It's been on a few cars and IMO is classed as a mod! I guess that's open to some debate or discussion!
With the lines of the Zed, you really can't tell it's coming up to two decades old! Private plate just further masks this :)

Yeah I got mine to hide the age, plus I like the look :D

great picture, I remember looking out of my window wondering, whos that parked on my grass.

Makes sense on a coupe; the lines and 'look' of the car haven't really aged at all, and a private plate on a well-kept car keeps those not 'in the know' guessing. I've been asked a couple of times 'is it new?'.

Yes I have one, spent ages deciding. My budget was £500 max - had my eye on several DVLA 'ZED' plates at the £250 mark but in the end went for an Irish Z4 plate :)

My car came with a private plate, nothing fancy just dateless. When I first got the car my neighbour asked how old is it and was shocked when I told him it's 12 years old.

If anyone is interested in a Z4 plate, the next DVLA auction has GGZ 4 with a reserve of £500 on 16th May. Typically would go a lot higher than reserve, probably £2k+.

Good if your initials are GG... or you like horse racing?! Would look something like this...

Hi, if you’re looking at factors likely to influence waving at other zed owners then the motorbike owners on here are more likely to do this as it’s much more common in the two wheeled world imho :)

Bought the plate 5 years ago.
Bought the car 6 weeks ago.
I think it enhances the car.

Been thinking about a private plate but when I bought the car the plate was spookily very name related ie LL04KFU and my name is kev fullerton so bit reluctant to change think it was an omen to buy the car :D

I have "P 50 RMR" on my Z4MR. The "RMR" could denote "Rick's M Roadster". However, it doesn't. I have had the plate since before I had the Zed. "RMR" are my initials.

On the Mini I/we have "SR 02 RMR". Mrs Sarah R bought it for me, so Sarah R to Rick M R.

And for the sake of completeness the Discovery has "S 5 SRX". 5 is Mrs R's lucky number, SR are her initials and the "X" was for me! :P

Thinking of changing my name by deed poll to YFOS REU. Would be cheaper. Will see what Mrs Reu thinks

I have some one else's private plate. Came on the car but means nothing to me. Seen one want which is age related for the car and is my initials and a play on my surname. Problem is by the time you get it transferred and buy plates its the cost of the mig welder that I want :x - bu99er as they say
