How many of you have replaced your (N52/2.5/3.0) Water Pump?

Well mine just went the other day so if you have doubts it's best to change it, these engines aren't cheap second hand.
Parts cost £290 for pump and thermostat off some bmw parts store on ebay. I've seen cheaper in Germany but I need it ASAP.

I phoned the owner this morning to confirm, he stated the pumps are new and will stand any scrutiny, or your money back. I for one will be ordering my set and getting them fitted by my independent

Mine went at 78k, ,£350 for pump and fitting all in with original part, was advised the thermostat was fine so didn't replace. I actually broke down and had to be recovered so suggest getting it done as preventative maintenance.

I'm impressed, they're on my radar for future.

For my own knowledge, what year is/was/are these engines? Model specific? Ta

The n52 engine was fitted to e85 si models 06-08 & also the e89 models 23i & 3.0i til 2012 (I think)

Bought mine when it had 66k miles.
I had been to see the car twice (drove both times) as it was a toss between a Porsche Boxster (drove once) and a 350Z (drove once and fell in love).
The time I decided to drop cash on the Z the person told me it was in for the water pump. :x Alarm bells went of, but hay, a new water pump is a hurdle I didn't have to deal with. Good for me as I didn't have it go just after I bought it. :D

Mines being done at the weekend after showing signs of failure at 94k. Decided to get that thermostat done at the same time.
Just in time for a blast down to Mevagissey for a week. So glad it failed now and not halfway there. :driving:

Rather than risk a massive overheat and trailer home to ruin our forthcoming Scotland GT,I changed pump and thermostat at 68,000miles as planned preventive maintenance.Expensive but the peace of mind priceless. Not difficult at all even on basic wheel ramps.Good price fromBmparts All genuine kit arrived following day

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm after some advice... to replace the water pump or not?

I recently had my car up for sale but made the smart decision to keep it. While it was up for sale I was asked a few times whether the water pump has been replaced. It hasn't, but it got me thinking. Car is a 2006 3.0 Si Coupe on 84k miles and temperature gauge hasn't ever given any surprises, but should I get it done to avoid trouble somewhere down the line?

I've found a new Pierburg one online for £250 and can get an indy to fit it so not a big expense. If I should get it done, should I replace the thermostat while I'm at it?

Thanks

You can get them from Germany for around £215

Bought ours last week just got to get it fitted

Well the water pump on my first E86 died at 60K miles and 9 years old.

My current one is on 85K miles, but I've no idea if it has had a new pump or not.

I'm undecided about whether to have it replaced as a preventative measure, but seeing as I just bought an E91 325i as a daily that also has the N52 engine I should probably buy one just in case!

When I had my pump done my BMW Indy recommended doing the thermostat as well, so I went with that even though the OEM stat added another £100 to the bill. :(

Mr Tidy, Billz,

Thanks, that's made my mind up. Waterpump ordered from ebay, thanks for the link Billz. I had looked on ebay but not for a "wasserpumpe"... saved me £35

Will source a thermostat to get them both replaced at the same time. I love this forum

Probably for the best OP - even if you don't fit them straight away!

But when mine did let go the temperature climbed from "normal" to "in the red with the light on" in no more than a mile. :o

Looks like I'm about to go shopping!

I’m not aware of a single instance of the thermostat failing on the N52. They are not at all like a conventional stat.
