how many miles full tank of fuel

on my europe trip i was getting 300 miles from each tank

32mpg from a 3.0ltr auotomatic, very good especially considering i was often do very good speeds

These have to be one of the best engines ever mass produced IMO.

Taz, do you wait for the fuel light to come on? 32mpg gets me 350 miles and a fill up is usually 49 litres.

Cheers

Andy

when touring i filled up as necassary, sometime before the light if i was unsure where i was heading

on the first day i travelled 383 miles before filling up, some days i filled up after less than 300 miles

as ive stated before, i drive very conservativley, and i get about 270 miles from about 45 litres of fuel, that equates to around 27mpg, how on earth some of you guys are getting 400 miles is beyond me, and id love to know your secrets !!

The 3.0l is quite lazy, with good low down torque, so I would be in 5th @ 30 mph, in 6th by 40 mph and still accelerate reasonably quickly if need be. One of the concerns I have on the new 4 pot, is that of power in low revs, around the 1500 mark the 6 cylinder pulls easily so you can tootle in a high gear and drive lazy, great for town and villages, from the reports so far the new 2.8l does not pull well below 2000 rpm :(

As said above, the 3.0 does not need to be worked very hard at all to keep up with the general flow of traffic and I will commonly do 30mph in 5th or even 6th if on a flat road.

I think the reason I get pretty good mileage is because I am sad and am a hyper miler in my deisel car and when normally driving in the Z4 (i.e just cruising/ going with the flow) my diesel driving habits kick in. When I first got my VW tdi I would struggle to get more than 550 miles per tank, but now I regularly see 700 miles per tank and its mostly down to driving style, though the engine is probably looser now, (not bad for a 170bhp 1.9 lump).

I guess I just use lots of engine breaking, lots of coasting in gear before junctions, down hills at red lights etc, keeping moving (even down to 5mph) is much better than stop starting... the best I ever saw on the trip computer was 483 miles.

Amazingly, having had mine now for 2 weeks, I had to refill yesterday after getting over 400 miles from the tank, working out at an average of 45mpg which is a mix of city and motorway driving in my 2006 2.0Se which i'm pretty stunned by to be honest!!

Sorry, but your Math may be a tad off, tank is 55 litres, so 400/55*4.54 = 33 mpg.

Maximum indicated range per trip, I have seen was 460 miles on a tank equating to 37.9 mpg. I complete about 430 motorway miles a week and another 60 or so commute/blast using about 60 litres, my lifetime computer indicated is 38.1 mpg which is probably slightly out, I would guess that I am actually getting about 37 mpg average.

Math??
Your in the UK mate;)!!
Its a plural noun!!

Yes you are quite correct, but hey, I'm a Mechanical Engineer not an English Teacher and thus mathematics is my best subject, which is quite ironic as it's used as a singular noun there :)
