How many keys should it have?

Ok, so I'm going to look at a couple of 2003/2004 3.0 Z4's at the weekend and would like to know how many keys came with the car when new? Also alarm fobs (or are they built into the key?)

Plus, if there's something in particular I should be looking out for, such as a recall that may not have been done?

Or anything else I should know?

Thanks.

2 + valet key.

2 keys the alarm buttons etc. are built in. Also there *may* be a third wallet key (small grey key, no buttons) which can be used to access the car via the door locks but not start the engine as it has no immobiliser chip in it (I think that last bit is right but someone else may have more definite info)

2 main keys plus 1 wallet key mine is black and will start the car but when you open the car with the wallet key you start the alarm process until you put the key in the ignition.

The same for me. 2 main keys and 1 wallet key (black).

Same foe me 2 main keys and valet key,

not aware of anything to look for, unusual, usual of course, tyres, smoking etc, just make sure you fire the engine up from cold, tell a multitude from the exhaust from cold :D

OK - the key bit is done to death but in terms of general checking of the car expect it to look good. They are that sort of car that people take care of so be very picky.

Check all panel gaps and panel views looking for evidence of dents and repairs. look for lowere front spoiler damage and stone damage to the front end

I'd test every single accessory. They are all expensive to fix. Go right down to - Mirrors moving, seat heaters/movement aircon working, sat nav, PDC, hood functioning

Check the hood - expensive

One final thing I'd look for is with the hood part down see if it's full of algae on the canvas. Outdoor cars go green in there - I walked on 2 that looked like you could grow plants in it.

Good luck

I have some of this plant life on my zed, you can only see it if you look for it when the hood is down. plan to clean it up when its stops raining long enough to clean and re-seal the hood, i'm guessing that will do the trick so maybe its not such a big deal????? dunno?

You can only see it when the hood is part down but my fear is that the algae is the quick external sign its been constantly wet for ages. My fears would be 1) rotting the canvas and that is just soooo expensive 2) crud blocking the drain holes and as is common ruining the hood motor.

I'm lucky I garage all the time and once dry drop the hood down all the time so everything is clean and dry

Clean the "green" off is no problem, as long as it is done reguarly , it will always appear on cars kept outside during winter months, if it need a lawnmower you have a problem :D
