How many handbrake clicks

I'm counting 7 to actually hold the car on a gentle hill, is that normal?

Feels like more than in other cars ice l I've had.

I managed to get mine down to 3 or 4, depending on the incline. The brake shoes wear themselves in over time, so may need further adjustment in future.

Adjustment is quite simple once you get the hang of it.

Not unusual with BMW handbrakes - mine needs 6 or 7 before it holds!

My 3 Series needs more.

Quick edit - my Z4 only needs 5, so it's better than I thought.

But I always push the button in when I apply it (so I don't wear the ratchet out, as has happened) :o

Mrs TJ has always been fighting gravity with height and needs the seat as far forward as it goes. Any more than 5 clicks and she cant pull the handbrake on :o

:D

Had mine replaced under warranty due to worn teeth at 55K so it may be worth checking if that’s the problem. However a good solution is also to put it on then off then on again- will be a lot tighter.

mine was quite a few clicks (not that I let it click all the way up) but since adjustment, its like 4 clicks now. feels really weird cos at 4 clicks you're still pulling straight up - which is harder to do with much force. id actually rather it engaged later so its at a more comfortable angle to apply a force to.

Morning all hand brake issues I’ve always been told the max clicks is 6 no more. My Z 20i is at 4 clicks sticks to the road on inclines.
Hope that helps.

Yes, by my Dad when my Mum started driving but also by my driving instructor.

I checked my E90 yesterday and it needs 8 clicks, so I'll add that to the list when it goes to my Indy next month before it's MOT test!

Mine cost me 600 quid for a new ratchet a few months ago so to hell with it, it will See Me out... :x
