How many gears should the DCT kickdown?

Hi guys,

So my 35is, under heavy acceleration (not quite pushing down the kickdown, and when pushing down the kickdown) is going down from gear 5 @ 40mph to gear 2....

Now im pretty sure it normally only goes down 1 gear, ie gear 5 to gear 4.
Can someone confirm my logic is correct and im not going bonkers?

Thanks

Had mine go from 7 down to 3 the gear is determined by the revs
If you bury the throttle at around 65-70 it will change down to 3rd
If you use the paddles or shifter it will only go up or down 1 at a time

It'll drop down enough gears to give maximum acceleration for the given amount of throttle regardless of initial speed.

+1 - What he said, that's the beauty of these dual clutch boxes, they can "jump" a selection of gears almost instantaneously. :)

There’s a difference between foot to the floor and kick down. The latter as above is max acceleration and the former a mix of power and economy.

At 4,000 revs in 5th, for example, in Sport/S (i.e. gear lever to the left), hard kick-down keeps me too busy to count gears.

Thanks for the confirmation everyone. So if I understood correctly in auto mode it will kick down to the lowest possible gear. In manual mode it will kick down 1 gear. Which is probably why i was thinking it only jumps down 1.... lol

Kick down will always drop down enough gears to give you max acceleration, regardless of which more you are in.

They are governed so they will not self destruct by chucking themselves into first at 80. You cannot put them into reverse whilst going forward either. If you test that and it does go into reverse, I will deny everything.
