How low do you go...?

Me again.. sorry

Springs and lowering on E85 3.0si

What’s the consensus on how low is too low? I’ve got speed bumps near me of different severity and I’m wondering how the ride height of the Zeds cope.

The car I’m looking at has Eibach’s and is lowered 25mm. Is this regarded as a lot, just right...not enough :D

Likely that my question count will rise a lot over the next week as the search gets closer , so thanks for your time and candour

Oem springs with slightly more tyre wall for me, I used to scrape every day on eibachs and the ride was crap

I’m low, it scrapes sometimes, you get used to it and avoid obvious issues. Unless you live in bumpsville, go for the look you want over worrying about occasionally scraping the bottom.

15mm below sport for me, and that’s plenty low enough. I’ve almost become beached between the front and rear, luckily avoiding damage. Take speed bumps slowly and 9 times out of 10 I’m ok. When it does scrape it tends to be the undertray rather than the bumper.

if you go lower, you will need to take care parking forwards into a car park space if it has a kerb in front, my standard height 3.0i only just clears a typical kerb. You may also scrape the bottom on these annoying roads with lots of speed bumps, i've done that a few times.

I run Eibachs and they are near enough perfect. On my 3000 mile trip round Europe I only grounded twice, both times in car parks with steep entrances/exits.
Any lower and it would have been a problem in a lot more places.

I run the Bilstein B12 Pro kit, I scrape my front splitter going in and out of the drive, some speed bumps and also getting out of a shopping centre car park near me.
Now I know it is only my splitter that is getting hit so I am not too fussed but I wouldn't want to go any lower.

I've had the following on mine:

Sport springs - too much of an arch gap for my liking, when paired with normal sized tyres e.g. not using M side profiles.

Fk springs - sat really nice on these, but too low for day to day driving. My car scraped on even the smallest speedbumps.

Eibach springs and old tired sport shocks - sat perfect and drove ok, but the tired shocks caused it to sit a bit lower and the ride was quite bumpy. It also scraped a lot, though not as bad as the fk springs.

Eibach springs with brand new, non sport shocks - sits a little higher, but the ride is good and it doesn't scrape on every speedbump now.

I use my Z4 pretty much every day, and have driven over 60,000 miles in 6 years of ownership. The current set up is by far the best, in terms of looks, handling and ride comfort.

I've got H&R springs on mine, the ride gets stiffer but it's a matter of personal preference, it can get up an down most places unless it's a short steep incline then your shafted.

Air suspension. Can drive just as hard as anyone else . More comfortable than most coilovers and can drive higher than standard or as low as you like 😏

And stupid also.

Before you berate me, I understand how air suspension works. I just see no point in completely slamming the car to the ground when parked. I guess if you could customise it to sit absolutely perfect then it's great, but whenever I see anyone fit air suspension to their cars, they only care about having the exhaust touch the ground when parked up. I really don't get it

Ah, not only me then, that sees no point in it. And.... I don't care if you berate me. Each to their own I suppose.
Please feel free to carry on, it makes unmessed ones worth more! :D
Coz it's sick bro and it's stanced innit? yes very cool, now go and play with your barbie dolls. :poke:

I don’t see how it makes standard ones worth more ? Mine will be standard again come selling time . Im all for people having different opinions and that’s fine no argument here .

But what exactly is stupid about it ? Pointless I suppose you could argue . But then again you could argue any visual modifications are pointless .

I could set it high and drive up a farm road , arrive at knockhill , set it to a good height for going round the track then air out it afterwards looking cool while I eat an ice cream 🍦
