How low an offer for a BMW X5 with limited history?

Just some advice please.
I need a 7 seater and have been to see an X5 for £16k, Diesel, not much in the way of extra's.
Trouble was that it had one stamp at 16k from the dealer but nothing after that, now at 67k - seller said he had it serviced locally and took care of any issues.
Had a small drive and seemed fine.
Problems I'm thinking about:
1. new tyres?
2. new brakes?
3. full service?
4. Unforseen problems?

There was nothing other that made me suspicious - other than this person buying the car from new, living on one of the most expensive roads in kingston and then saying he thought BMW servicing was too expensive.

My question is what is the lowest people would offer him? Or I could offer him without wasting time.

Be reasonable please - and any experience with X5's appreciated.

Even if it wasn't serviced at BMW, it should still be stamped by someone or have evidence of receipts etc.

Firstly what age of X5 are we talking here and what engine just a 3.0l I assume? As above someone should have stamped a book or there should be some kind of evidence of any work carried out. For all you know right now any issues could have been masked.

You can visually see if brakes and tyres will need replacing soon but I'd be looking to have it serviced ASAP if I was purchasing it. Issues can arise even with the best maintained vehicles but we need to know engine and age to gauge any other issues.

It's a 3.0D on a 57 plate. Date of manufacture August 2007 - so higher tax sadly.

Bit of an odd advert - it does not even state the model, i.e. SE (not so desirable) or MSport.

Pop over to xdrivers.co.uk, many experienced X5 owners there (including me :) ).

Maybe i'm in the wrong place but £16k is a lot of money to go begging on something that sounds a bit dodgy.

You can do all the visual checks that you want but even a qualified mechanic would be taking a punt on that unless they could get it on a ramp, have a good poke about, run a diagnostic check, drop the oil and check/change all the filters. Don't be fooled into thinking the engine is bullet proof. The 3l engine can go pop just as easily as the 2l N47. You could be letting yourself in for all kinds of EGR, swirl flap, turbo related crap if you buy one that's only been serviced once in 7 years. It;s low mileage for a diesel as well which something I never think is good.

If you insist on buying it then why not get the name of the garage and phone them up with the reg and see if they can tell you anything about the car. To me the whole thing stinks

"seller said he had it serviced locally and took care of any issues"

"he thought BMW servicing was too expensive"

I bet he was quite happy to pay the prices for (as we all know) expensive OEM parts then when anything did go wrong? Barge pole comes to mind.

Thanks I'm over there.

I have a figure in mind for this car and it's what I'll leave with the seller & move on.
