3yrs this month since I bought my new 23i, swapped it a couple of months ago for a new 35is,for my summer play thing, at 64 yrs of age I can't see me changing it again, will keep this one as long as possible, hoping my health and strength hold out after having a major health scare a couple of years ago it makes one appreciate ones own mortality.

PS Sorry for the doom and gloom :(

I know how you feel

We've had ours 1 yr 4 months , and I still love it, it was 6 mths old when we had it , if its dry and sunny the roof comes down any excuse it could be freezing I don't care :driving: :-D I can have done 300 miles during tha day in my comp car , but when I drive the Z4 I have a smile on my face ,I think the Z4 shape knocks spots off the SLK, fantastic :yeah:

Wow who's had theirs 5 years plus? That's from launch!

I'm guessing that's a vote from an e85:6 owner that thinks they have an e89 lol

Nope, traded my E85 for my E89 in July 2009, just could not resist the pure white interior.

Now a sunny day car only, although was used as a daily for 3 yrs. Decided to just keep the one I had as can't see the logic in blowing another 30k plus for a lesser interior but with a bigger engine which would be great but not for so much moola.

So all paid and can still enjoy her for the days I want to while the runabout takes the strain weekdays and winter.

:D

Well done sir! It would appear that you and I are so far at least the longest owners of an e89 Z. Same colour combo too.

I'm like a few others on here, on my second E89 (and third Z4)
Two and a half years for the first and almost a year for the second. Says a lot about the car I reckon

Never got one as unfortunately they never made an M. I would have had an e89 M but having had an e85 M there was no model equivalent in the e89 range that would not have been a step down.

Except on paper and the road the 35is is a quicker car as standard and really should probably have been the ///M Version :poke: infact it has the same engine as the 1M so go figure why they never actually put it out as a ///M model.

I was thinking the same myself, what extras would an M car need to have over the top of the range E89 to make it special enough to buy?

Instead of being called the 35is of it had been called the Z4M then possibly that but then there will always be people who still wouldn't buy it if it had been released as such because they'll say it's not a ///M, not in the spirit of ///M cars, not like the old one (which is the point) etc. Unfortunately BMW are making these cars to perform when you need it and to cruise in comfort when you don't

So to answer your question, it just needed the badge really.

Sorry, strongly disagree. An M is more than outright performance. The E89 does not have an Lsd which is vital for performance cars. The gearbox of the 35is is also not in the same league as say an M5 or M3 box. The e89 is a cruiser with decent performance but is nowhere near an M car.

I think for BMW its a case of how many they'd sell, given sports car sales for BMW dropped through the floor in the last few years. Its the reason the e89 is discounted so much now, because cars of this type aren't selling as well as they once did.

On top of the weight of the car being huge, there's a rather null steering feel, the suspension being a bit crap (soft and bouncy but still rock hard on sharp bumps, no matter the adaptive suspension setting) plus quite a bit of body roll, for me also the throttle response is not sharp enough, notable delays compared to a directly wired throttle, same of most BMWs these days. People will disagree, until they drive something like an S2000 which is superb from a driving perspective. The computer spends far too much time working out how to engage everything smoothly rather than delivering super sharp responses. Its a great cruiser and it really shifts but its no sports car in the way the Z4M is. Having said all that, it suits my needs perfectly. It has power, style, toys and reasonable handling with way more comfort than the e85/6/m. Which is what I needed as its a daily driver. Had I wanted something just for the weekend, then a nice Sepang Z4MC would be sat on the drive instead. The 35iS is a slightly more boosted and badged up 35i and for that reason if they badged it an M, they'd get a proper slagging off from every angle. Power and a badge does not make an M, its the entire package.

Now actually, if I do get the 5 tourer for the dogs, I may just get myself an s2000 toy having talked myself into it lol

Will have had mine 2 years on the 7th of Feb, only just done 12K so have no inclination to change her as I love driving her :D

I agree with Manic's comments.

We've made three modifications to address the main driveability issues:

1. Swap run flats for Michelin Pilot Super Sports
2. Eibach Pro kit, progressive rate springs, with full Hunter alignment
3. ESS re-map, Winter stage 1, Summer stage 2 and use Shell V-Power

The e89 is a much sharper drive and a nicer car to live with as a daily driver with the above updates.

Plus with the DCT you can either choose to cruise around or select Sport+ and manual shifting if you want some fun.

had mine 9 days suits me down to the ground love it :driving:  .dare I say it in my eyes far superior to the m I had .but still have my soft spot for the m and would still recommend people to buy a m for raw power

Had mine 9 months now :)

Interestingly, just off the back of Maniac's post, I have had 2 Honda S2000s and much prefer my Z4 :)

Don't get me wrong, the e89 is a nice place to be, comfy, practical, quick etc. But its numb compared to the grin factor of the s2000 much more visceral experience. Its about what you want, and if you're wanting feedback, its M or s2000 type territory. The e89 is quite numb compared to those cars, but that also means I'm happy to do hundreds of miles in my e89 which I'd not want to do in an s2000.

I have to say that as I get older a degree of comfort becomes essential more than desirable!
As a 20 year old in the late sixties, my daily driver was a Mini Cooper S with a proper full race motors at one stage or another (999cc and a 1293cc)- I think back to the torture that must have been.
Now I have a car which is faster, more reliable, more economical etc etc etc.

It was fun at the time tho. :D
