Plug gaps which are set by manufacturer are better than fiddling with measuring gap yourself and then tapping to reduce gap or prying up to enlarge gap. I have in years gone by seen broken misfiring plugs purely down to unprofessional adjustment ie hitting electrode with hammer or prying up with screwdriver. Plugs are fairly delicate and easy to damage. They are also a fairly cheap service item so I replace mine every few years irrespective of mileage. Same goes for other service items like air filter, cabin filter.
