How long did your rear tyres last?

Apparently mine are down to 2mm on the inside (5mm on the outside!!) after 18,000 miles.

I think they've done fairly well, but 2mm on the inside and 5mm on the outside is concerning me... Previous owner sliding it everywhere? Or tracking perhaps?

I think my rears were new when I bought it, fronts were part worn but ok...

then had to replace all four 12k later

After another 10-12k on the Michelins though I have plenty left front and back :D

Just wondering what to do, as the fronts are fine, but ideally want to change them all for non-rfts.

Might take the front ones off, and sell them.

All 4. Had tracking and alignment done b4 they were fitted and still only got 15k out of them. Just got them last month along with a main dealer service. Expensive month it was.

Expensive month for me, too. Service, Insurance and 2 new rear tyres = £1600. I don't even get paid that in a month.

Oh yes, without a doubt. Unfortunately, I hadn't budgeted for £500 of tyres, as I thought they still had 5mm left...

Original rear tyres (previous owner mostly) lasted 19k miles but the fronts still had a good amount of tread left. Frankly I'll be amazed if I get 12k miles out of them - I always used to go through front tyres on my previous cars (hot hatches) in 8-12k miles

At almost 40k miles my 3.0 has just had another set of rears fitted averages 20k per set.

I like to change them at 3mm as they really go off beyond that.

4,000 miles for my rear Conti M3s, but that was including 2 track days and a couple of thousand miles of hard driving through Wales, the Lake District and the Peak District. Although as you've noticed, the amount of negative camber on the rear means the inside of the tyres wear a lot quicker than the outside - mine had 4mm on the outsides and had just gone through the wear indicators in the inside.

The fronts are still at about 5mm after the same amount of mileage.

My Falkens are down to 2mm on the inside edge and ive only done about 5000 miles :( Wonder if the alignment is out.

5000 miles? I'd be VERY concerned with that!! I sold my Astra VXR with just over 4000 miles on it I think (from new), and it had 7mm left on the fronts and 8mm on the rears.

So the inner edge wearing quicker will be down to the camber on it? It's a 3.0Si. Does that mean the fronts will be the same???

The fronts won't have as much negative camber on them as they're normally turned when you're going through a corner anyway - the rears need the camber to help it grip in the corners.

Don't know if the non-Ms have the same settings though.

Hmmm, that's a bit pants! Because I obviously check my tyres regularly, and they seem fine, but I can't get to the inner edge! (BMW only noticed because the wheels were off)... A bit dodgy!

If it isn't due to negative camber, could it be that the previous owner liked to powerslide a bit?

Strangely its worse on one saide than the other which makes me think something isnt quite right.

5000 miles of hard driving including 4 laps of the nurburgring, doing 150mph on the autobahn and generally not going slowly to work and back!

Ah right, that probably explains it then - not too dissimilar from mmm-fives then.
