How long did you search for a z4 ?

Less than 6 weeks for me. Plenty of research and checking classifieds to narrow the choice down. I couldn't be arsed with months of searching and viewing, and probably a bit of good fortune meant that I bought the first one I drove!

I was interested in buying a Z for about a year, although my intention to buy was only enhanced by my 3 amigo buddies who very kindly chauffeured me around . I was hooked having followed them around in my golf R during this time as well. It really makes you appreciate how planted these cars are on the road when you're hooning around .
I spotted my Z in the auto trader , contacted the garage, left a deposit and arranged to travel down to Burton on Trent from Durham. Paulgs1000 very kindly took me down and I used his knowledge to look over the car. The car has proved to be great I couldn't be happier. Just had the roof motor relocated into the boot and now looking forward to many happy miles of roof down motoring.
Life is all about decisions, buying the right car , engine size, colour, seat colour, etc. These decisions can all be influenced by many different reasons all I can say is ,the right one is out there ,if your not 100% happy move on until you do find the right car.
The first decision you've made is to come onto this forum to help you choose which is a great start, the knowledge and help provided by a large majority of members is invaluable. Good luck in your search!.

I didnt search at all I went to Blackbushe car auctions for a work van and ended up coming home with a silver Z4 instead :D

Walked into a car dealers with a mate and saw a silver Z4 under the lights - didn't know what it was but instantly fell in love with the looks and leather and was pleased it was only a 2.0 litre - cheap to run thought I. Only £10,000 - couldn't believe something looking like this could be so cheap. After 3 test drives and a lot of umming and arring jumped in. . . . . .

After learning very quickly on the Forum (should have done this first!) after a year, took 8 months of looking to find a 2008 3.0si from BMW AUC. Had to compromise on colour and spec but everyone told me about the engine - and they were right. Travelled 400 miles (there and back) and made my decision within 400 yards and two roundabouts of the test drive! :driving:

They just find me ! I've had 4 in three years. I think I have a bad habit of surfing the net and then just cant say no to a bargain !
So, if your selling a pile of rubbish and its cheap enough I'm probably daft enough to buy it and then waste all my evenings sorting it out and turning it into something decent ! (But I enjoy it really !)

About 10 months and counting.

I'm all for buying wisely, but I just couldn't look for that long!

To be fair I was ready to buy back then but would have needed to borrow the money for it. Then I decided I'd wait til I sold my house and had the cash. Now I'm counting down the days to splurge my profit on a lovely lump of metal. Needless to say, the girlfriend took some convincing!

My first found me and bought it within a couple of hours of seeing it. This one I just typed in the spec I wanted into the BMW UK website and it found this one in London. Did take a couple of months haggling for the right price though.

About 6 months, but i was monitoring the forum for 18months in advance :p

I wanted imola, champagne leather and all the toys - champagne had to make way as only two imola Z4MC's passed through whilst i had the money waiting. No regrets!

I think I missed the z4 coupé launch but couldn't resist when it came to looking, that's coming from a Toyota Celica. So much more butch and perfect shape, about two months is the official answer when I saw a local one with low miles, good colour scheme in my view, fantastic feel - couldn't say no.

Evening all,

I sold my Triumph Street Triple and thought I'd really like to get in to an MG roadster or BGT. Spent weeks looking for one, found the one I wanted and test drove it. I was ready with the cash when something the seller said made me think again. "Not a day goes by without me tinkering with something" He had said. It made me make my excuses and leave it while I thought it over for another night. I wanted a car I could bring back to life, not something which would take every spare hour just to keep on the road.

That night I saw a Zed at a garage in Manchester at a price I could afford. It's a bit of a dog, the wheels are screwed, the drivers window was stuck (found it wedged up with a piece of wood!), the back of the drivers seat had come away, the headlights are fogged up. Sold as seen was the deal.

So there's the answer, about 12 hours from seeing the ad to getting my bum in the drivers seat.

It's just brilliant!!

Took my wife's (at the time) 7 year old Vauxhall Tigra for an MOT and service at our local garage one morning and 6 hours later gave her a lift to collect it and spyed the Z, just in the show room door. Top down it had just arrived in and had not even been cleaned up at that point. Did a sharp right to take a closer look. An hour later following a top down test drive. The Z had a new owner. Fairly standard fit out but so clean and with 48k for a 54 plate and a price of 7k at the start of August it had to be. Late mid life crisis I believe and that was two years ago and many mods later. Lovin it.

took me nearly a year, I had my heart set on a white Z which I didn't realise at the time was stupidly rare... a year later of searching about 2-3 times a week I finally found a white Z for sale!!!! and even more to my surprise was that it had most of the extras I wanted!! //M front bumper, red sport seats PDC sensors...... only 1 problem.... IT WAS IN NORTHERN IRELAND (im from Norwich, East of England!) :headbang:

instantly dismissed it and was gutted.... after a few days of sulking I though sod it.... ill look into the logistics and costs of the possibility.... turns out its not that hard or expensive at all!! I booked a flight to Belfast and the owner met me there and I took it for a test drive and loved it! paid half the cash and transferred the rest and then drove it down to Dublin and paid about £180 for a ferry crossing to Holyhead then drove 6 hours straight home without even having a petrol/wee break!! all in all the flights, petrol and ferry cost around the £300 mark which isn't too bad at all!

so happy I waited as a lot of people on here used the line "wait and your perfect Z will find you" which sounds cheesy..... but they were right and im so glad I listened :D

3 months to find it and another month to get it.

Was looking on Autotrader, Pistonheads, BMW etc and had seen a few cars previously.

Found the car on here too after remembering about the forum.

I started looking for one after spotting a Monaco Blue coupe with champagne leather & sun protection glass at the 'Ring in 2008, and then having to drive a poorly e34 M5 back to Britain after ADAC refused to take me anywhere other than a local BMW dealer in Germany (on a bank holiday weekend).

Spent a few weeks researching, then narrowing down my options (i.e. no black leather), and finally settled on looking at 3, at dealers in Tring, Cardiff and Newcastle.

Didn't get any further than the Tring one, as I took it for a test drive, negotiated a tiny discount, and bought it there & then. Drove it off about 2 hours later after the dealer had been to the Post Office to tax it.

My only regret (and it's a minor one) was not going to see the Sepang Bronze coupe in Newcastle, as I've seen that car in the flesh since, and would have saved myself £5k by buying that one instead.

So I've finally bought one! Took me around 2 months of looking. Initially h was set on a low milage full spec but found one which was good milage and colour was perfect. Flew to Edinburgh airport. Took a train to go around Glasgow and then got picked up by the dealer. As I entered the showroom and saw the car I just laughed and knew it was worth the trip. Got paperwork done and enjoyed driving around the Scottish roads testing the car out! Stayed the night and drove around Scotland in the morning to see the lochs exploring the engine. Then down to Lake District. And then find sky arriving home to London. So a good road trip as soon as I bought the car.
