How is the front number plate surround fixed on?

I'd like to remove the front number plate surround. I peeled the plate back to 11k what looked like rivets, two either side (maybe more in the middle)

So if I want to remove the surround do I need to drill these out? Or is there some sort of fixing behind that can be undone?
 
My M bumper had it riveted on....about 4 or 5 if i remember correctly. I drilled them out and planned to get them filled.
 
As aquazi states - a set of rivets. You can't easily drill them out as they will likley spin as the drill bites. Behind is just a polystyrene block so no worries abou t what's behind

Best to remove the bumper, grip the rear of the rivet and drill out, although if you try with some really sharp drills you might be lucky
 
How easy is it to remove the bumper? And how big are the holes that it leaves :cry: Suppose I need to weigh up the improved looks of no Surround against have x4 or 5 small holes in the bumper (although the car being black they won't be to obvious I wouldnt have though?
 
10 mins to remove the bumper when you know what you're doing. 20 the first time.
Same to refit.

The holes will be 5 to 5mm and likely distorted the plastic surface slightly. They will be hidden under a standard sized reg, plate

Only an issue if you do what I did and have a narrowed 5 digit plate

Mmm, thanks for that. I was planning on running it with no front plate at all so maybe I'd be better off waiting until I get some side skirts fitted and get them to fill / spray the front for me :headbang: Fricking BMW, fancy drilling holes in the bumper!!!! :roll:
 
No plate - interesting idea. Guess you just pay the odd fine and stick one on at MOT time.

I avoid attracting such attention and costs :)

Its surprising how little attention you get. I've been driving my Elise for 2 yrs without a front plate and never been pulled over. Most of the time when the boys in blue see you they're going in the other direction. Only 'danger' is when going across a roundabout or junction.

Good for front facing cameras / specs / scamara vans etc.

I always keep a plate in the car and if ever I came up behind them I threw the plate in the dash.

Anyway the reason I did this? Years ago I had a small front plate on the Elise, got a fine through the post via an ANPR van for a "non conforming plate" £60! So annoyed as the plate obviously did its job as they identified me. So figured if I didn't have a plate at all I wouldn't have got the fine. And apparently the fine for no front plate is only £30 too - go figure that one.
 
I dont plan to have a front plate on my m bumper... I didnt have one on my s2000 for years with no issues... Just have it on the dash incase i get pulled... And blame the glue coming off it :lol:

I don't agree with this and agree with cj10jeeper. :thumbsdown:

Apologies for being frank but posers drive around with no plate on the front. Yes I agree is looks stealth and makes the car look nicer in a way, but why hide your plate or remove it. Ridiculous :poke:

Only place, in my mind, is for a car show or track.
