How important is the dealer stamp???

My Z4 is just coming up to an Inspection 1 service and I have had quotes from an independant, well thougyht of on here, and a main dealer via www.maindealerdiscount.com. By the time I add in petrol costs the price difference is only £25.

Is having the Dealer stamp worth the £25, the car has a full BMW service history but is very shortly reaching 100,000 miles. It has a BMW Insured Warranty but they will accept the service by an independant as long as the garage follows BMW's shedule, uses OEM parts and is VAT registered.

Advice please.

I think main dealers for main services and a BMW independent for intermediate services. Ideally I would want an independent stamp to have some kudos (meaning it is known as a specialist) or at least have BMW specialist or something similar.
 
or put another way if both were the same price which would you chose ...............and you have your answer :wink:

I thought that too, but I was wrong and the BMW Insured Warranty does requires BMW dealer servicing.

The Insured Warranty Policy Booklet specifically states...
What must I do to keep the Warranty valid?
The terms and conditions of the warranty listed below must be adhered to. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of a claim or the termination of your BMW Insured Warranty. This does not affect your statutory rights.

1. When servicing your BMW, failure to comply with the service schedule recommended by BMW may invalidate this warranty. All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts. Your BMW Service Booklet should be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct mileage at the time of service by the servicing dealer.

Main dealer more desirable. For re-sale, I doubt main dealer stamps will add much more value than indy stamps....

This was my understanding also BUT I spoke to Mondial (who operate the BMW Insured Warranty) and they specifically said the rules had changed. However having given it some thought I think that comment should be confirmed, which I will do tomorrow

I was put off an //M that didnt have one of its services done by BMW.

Doesnt mean there was anything wrong with it, but the fact you have questioned it yourself probably means its a question in everyone elses mind, so might make resale a bit harded.

Probably engine, indy and mileage dependant though. There isnt much point after a certain age and mileage.
 
If you look at used prices for 03/04/05 car you dont see any extra money in the completed listings for a full bmw service history.

You see more money when its just been serviced, especially inspection1/2 and as such no immediate cost for the new owner.
