How heavy is the clutch compared to a 3.0si?

Hi guys

I just wondered if the clutch on an M is much heavier than my 3.0si would be, just out of interest of course not that I am thinking of upgrading :)

That was the first thing I noticed ... Considerably heavier! Roll off, work the foot and then turn the wheel and realise the steering is a bit of a workout too. Haha.

IMO it wasnt so much the heaviness of the clutch that took getting used to, it was the biting point and immediate power. When I first started driving an M I would try to accelerate fast away from standing start, but as the power hit, my foot would ensure a nice, sort of kangaroo stutter would happen :o

Not cool.

I don't notice the clutch, but I did notice the lack of brakes when I got in my 1 series tonight with new pads all round :o

As inkey says though the power is more immediate though and a slow get away can be hard.

Are you driving like a boy racer Steve!? :poke:

I'm with inkey$. It's not that the clutch is heavier really. It's just savage. There's a smaller range on the pedal travel between initial bite, and fully engaged. And with the extra power/torque - it really bites hard and fast.

I agree as well but was easy for me to adjust to when I moved form a 3.0si to the ///M....

No, he doesn't - he drives it properly. I was a pax in his two weeks ago, was a great experience :driving: :D

Never noticed a hard clutch, but the kangaroo effect can be greatly reduced by removing the CDV.

But as said above, the brakes are epic!

Looks like I've been out numbered here. Haha. It is definitely heavier though, my foot aches in heavy traffic more! Science 'ey?

It is different to the 3.0 I had, not so much heavier or anything like that - just different. Probably relating to the biting point as others have said.

Did not take long to get used to and working on the CDV is useless in the M as it does not have the effect as it has on the 3.0.

Just an extremely light petrol pedal right??! :poke: :P

I can't say I noticed the clutch was heavier, the steering was the biggest difference. Although when you first start driving one the sport button turns the wallaby into an Olympic kangaroo :D

Then you tame it, adjust your driving and it's just epic.

Can we please get this myth busted, I removed the CDV from my M and it made a big difference, guess it differs from car to car.

I agree, I had the CDV removed from mine and instantly fixed the kangaroo effect.

Let's just all agree that it's fine to disagree. Our cars, our choice and our driving styles all differ. I still have mine, no kangarooing since I adjusted my driving style.

I'm totally fine with disagreeing but I want to prevent that statements like; "CDV removal is useless in the M" become treated as a fact, this could withhold current ///M owners of removing their CDV, potentially reducing their driving pleasure. :driving:
