Need some experienced advice here ..
I just bought a hard top for the roadster ..2008 E85 3.0si.
And I pick it up on Saturday.
The fellow is out of the country and Im to meet up with his Mom
Apparently it is stored in an apt locker.

I have been told to bring a helper to help me lug the thing out of its storage.
Im told it isn't extremely heavy, but it is awkward.
Do you think I could handle it by myself with a dolly ?
It's in a cover so what possibly could go wrong ?

Cheers Bumpy

It's not that it's that heavy, its around 25 - 30kg - The problem is the width of it

I'm 6'2" and have a long reach and I can only just about get a grip to lift it.

Thats tempting fait!

It may slip, damaging the roof and your car!

Unless you are loading it into a van... In which case with a trolley you'd be ok.

I don't have the reach to lift single handed. I'm 5ft 8.

It's an awkward thing to get on the car, best have someone help you, or you'll end up damaging the paint on the car, or worse - damaging/breaking the glass on the hardtop :(

Not possible to put on by yourself or even move as its an akward size and weight, plus you have to take it over the back of the car to install and you dont want to drop it

I guess I didn't give enough info ...
Sorry :?

Im just picking it up from the seller.
The hard top is stored in a condo locker and is in a protective cloth cover.
The seller is out of the country so his Mom is completing the 'deal'.
So there is no on site assistance.

Im just picking it up with a van and have access to a dolly.
So there isn't the question of fitting the top to the Zed at this time.
Im just hoping I can transport the hard top without using up a favour.
Once I get it back home I can get lots of help.
Im 6'1" and have lots of experience shifting furniture.

So can I manage to lug this thing from the storage locker to my van ?
Or will this strategy end in tears ?

I dont see why not.

Bring something to tie it down in the van... And loads of clothes to wrap/ protect it.

I've moved mine around many times fitted and removed it all on my own. Each season I bag it up and hang it on the garage wall alone. Not saying it's easy, but perfectly doable if you're fit anfd strong. (These days I lift it off with a winch, but that's another strory). Still carry it around and hang it up as asking the missus is just too much effort...

For ease have a helper which can be a frail old mother as it's not the weight just the awkward shape and ease of damaging it if you stand it down heavily or drop it on the rear screen glass.
