How good are your heated seats?

3 bars is way too hot for me - and so is 2 bars unless i have the roof down!

Mine get hot in under a minute in the morning - and even the thigh support heats up :D

Its MrsG's first move whenever she gets in the car straight on no.3 for hours on end if the journey's long enough she's even taken to taking a blanket with her aswell, convinced she's actually some kind of reptile pretty much like most women I know when it comes to heat or lack of it  , me I keep forgetting I have them and hardly ever use them :D

My 2006 coupe takes noticably longer to warm up than my 2007 E92 did, and it doesn't seem to heat as far up the back. The E92 only ever went on 2-bar, 3 was way too hot almost immediately (although my wife liked it, sensing a pattern here...)

the side bolsters aren't heated either.. and apparently when wearing a short skirt, that can cause a not so good fright when cornering.... (sat on the nice warm bit, g-force hits as you corner, legs pushed against the cold bit... brrrrrr)

although, I stress, I haven't got an issue with this, I as I don't often wear short skirts.

A lot hotter and faster than i thought they would be. Highest setting is almost unbearable! :D

I was a complete cynic about heated seats (my Z4 didn't have them initially) and I only intended retro-fitting to keep the wife happy. But now that I have them I wouldn't be without them, they're extremely effective in the Z4 and I too can't use the highest setting in comfort

My missus has it cranked up to the max, I think she might have been a reptile in a previous life, never have mine switched on. :D

Mine are so good that they melted my wet look leggings to them

Mrs CJ is the only person I know who can take the 3 bar fire on her a*se. It's insane as they get soooo hot.
There has to be a double entendre in there somewhere, but that aside for sure on the sport seats they are excellent and a worthwhile option

ooh er,mrs cj :P

on another note,cj/or any1 else, regards the heated seats,i have seen a few posts on here, saying if u want to add htd seats then it depends if the seats u have come with ellements pre ftd or not,as to wether u can just add the switches for them(without having to install the elements)
does any1 have any info on this for me,

i have the optional m sport seats in my 05 3.0i se(factory ftd option),so can i just install the switches??
cheers

Craig - not that easy I'm afraid.

Seats won't have the heated panels fitted as standard. I think what you're referring to is that older Z4's come with all the wiring already installed, i.e. the wiring between the switch panel (where the roof controls are) and the connectors on the underside of the seatbase. From memory this wiring is in place on Z4s up until around 2005 - I'm not sure on the changeover date, but IIRC BMW didn't fit the wiring in later cars.

If you've got the wiring already in place then it's an easy job: install seats with the heating panels, install a replacement switch panel with the buttons for the heated seats, and connect the wiring at each end. That's what I did, but you will have to get hold of heated seats to do this and that's not always cheap! I was lucky in picking up non-sport heated seats and a second-hand switch panel for a very good price, but heated sport seats are more expensive due to demand...

they're okay - but having gone out in the old mans Jag XF the other day they are x10 better... had to turn them down very very soon after turning them on to middle!

Of course you can get the pads for the seats, but what I've not done is try to retrofit them into the seats.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=52_3068&hg=52&fg=25

Since they are available they can obviously be done, but I'd want a pro to restretch the seat cover in place.

Not cheap but you can get the heated seat pads on ebay:

Used my heated seats for the first time last night and :o my ass was roasting after a couple of mins... Very quickly turned it back off.
