How fast will a Z4 actually go?

We don't know.

Our best guess comes from VSG calculations and/or GPS observations which suggest

3.2 M Coupe - 180mph
3.0 Coupe - 165mph
2.5si - 155mph
2.5i - 145mph

Only 142mph upto now then run out of road 8) But my time will come

Same runway , same result 2x times.

Saw 148+ before I ran out of road and had to stomp the binders.

I saw no difference between 5th and 6th in the speed runs.
Sport shifting madee no difference. (automatic)
It just took a long time during the run for the tranny to upshift to the top gear and limited the end of run speed increase.

I am sure that 155 mph is the top for my Z4 3.0 given a bit more room.

Unless there is a way to select an alternate shifting method to push the engine into a higher RPM pattern for the run.

I will say that 130 mph was smooth and slow after hitting 145+ several times.

How will the fuel affect the top speed?

Doesn't 98 unleaded will give more power than 95, leading to differences in observed top speed?

Had the GPS in the car and the speedo seems very close to the GPS unit in accuracy up to 100 mph. (+1 speedo) Do not know what the error is at 150.

Too scared to take your eyes off the road? :poke:

There are several of us that drove our stock z4's at an undisclosed location at which we have been up to 138 MPH. One of the crowd had an M, and he hit 155 ,,,, Mine is an 06 3.0, 138 with top up, 125 with top down. It was a straight and level run, out of the way from any traffic.

The feeling "fast" thing is really evident to me when i drive, and I'm sure it's just an illusion related to being close to the ground, the engine sound and tourke from the six speed. When i get in my wife's A-6 i find myself speeding without realizing because it is soooo quiet. Whatever the reason the Z feels like an extension of yourself and delivers a really unique driving experience. One man's opinion!

Considering testing this here: Laughlin Rd, 4 mile straight/level stretch
http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=N+Earle+Rd%2FLaughlin+Rd&daddr=Doolittle+Dr&hl=en&ll=39.134238,-121.392746&spn=0.011751,0.026157&sll=39.176385,-121.391501&sspn=0.023487,0.052314&geocode=FUfTVQIdZabD-A%3BFSD3VAIdSKbD-A&vpsrc=6&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=15&t=h&z=16

I run this road all the time and have considered this already due to how level the surface is and how well maintained the road is. I'd probably need a little time to be comfortable over 140 which was the fastest I've done previously (Corvette, decommissioned runway in Texas). Set some cones up at 3am Sunday morning and take my time. I'm assuming I'll hit the 155mph limit and start research how to remove it.

limited to 135 here in the States. There is a youtube of someone hitting 160 mph on the autobahn. I have no idea if they've reached the rev limiter or if they've just milked all out of the stock intake/exhaust, etc they can. I'm sure if you let someone like DINAN get hold of it, it may go a bit faster.
Actually I achived a speed of 255 km/h (according to speed gauge not gps, with 19" wheels) on the autobahn which is cca 159.4 mph. Don't tell to guys designated to put in practice the enforced law.

The figures stated in my Alpina handbook say 165mph for the soft top or 168 for the hard top, not that I have been able to verify :!:

I had my 2003 3.0i to just over 145 once for maybe 5 or 10 seconds....
I could have gone faster but I was catching up with a car and did not want to pass anyone at that speed.

The video below was posted by a member of the old Z4um.
I believe his name was Mark who was a USAF officer stationed in Germany.

I've seen 155 on the speedo, roof up,fast enough for me, and fast enough for the M5 behind not to get past....... Saw 150 mph in France in June on the motorway, felt really stable even with a boot full of luggage. Not sure I'd want to go any faster, it's pretty scary at those speeds on public roads. :driving:

If your caught speeding in France I thought they rape you for the fines? I read about one guy on the way to Le Mans in 2010 who got caught at 160 and lost his car as a result
