How fast have you been?

around 180 - 185 km/hr during the road course session of the BMW Alberta Advanced Driving School held earlier this month at Racecity Calgary. :driving:

Too chicken to go any faster on the front straight going into turn 1.

With my z4 2.0 I did 220 km/h for about 1/2 hour continously on the way to Thessaloniki. Feeling was fine and smooth.
It was late night (01:00) so no police around.

With my friend's 911, 280 Km/h on a controled/closed area

If you can do that with 90BHP less than the M and a soft top, I wonder what ours will do derestricted? 170-175MPH?

I imagine that would easy be acheiveable

Yep, should be. Alpina will do 170 with the hard top on having 300bhp so reckon the M Coupe would be good for 175.

an indicated 160 on a recent weekend in France - 2 clear lanes stetching out in front of me, top down, wasn't even thinking of maxing it, but soon found myself there, still accelerating, but had to slow for upcoming traffic, which arrived very quickly!

Car felt absolutely fine and stable though.

Gotta be so careful with those sneeky gendarmes 178K's is a confiscated car.....licence posted back to the uk.... a big old fine and a storage bill you would'nt believe.....

It was on a bike, so it may not count. Indicated 182mph side by side with my mate (I won't say who, where or when  ). We both had Kawasaki ZX-9RE1's. There were a load of us who use to go out racing where ever we were going  . After 25 years of sports bikes and loosing mates to the reaper either my time or licence was going to run out. Hence I just chill on a Harley now.

Well I had a 3.0 steptronic Z4 that I test drove in Germany (can't remember if US or Euro spec) and got it to 250 kmh (I guess it was euro now that I think about it) that was top down and still quite impressive.

My Z4 I've only had to around the 140mph range...once was at the desert run at the airport and another was while me and my brother-in-law was "racing" on some ah...private property...yeah  :P Probably shouldn't of went that fast as I was already way past him (he had a stock chevy impala auto tranny) but what can I say I was caught up in the moment....one of these days I'll get my car out to the drag strip here on Friday night (perhaps this Friday?) and see what I can get the baby to do in the 1/4 mile.

Seriously...the french have cameras all over their highways...
More like mobile unit's who set up 'in cover' beside the autoroute......generally a mile or two before a toll booth......snap your speed and another crew picks you up at the toll......all very friendly of course.....funny thing though the cars waiting to be ticketed.....90% none french plates...The French; that law abiding??...Best one I've experienced.....V attractive girl in a sporty number tails you....launches past, slows, goes again....you know the good old cat/mouse thing.....next thing I know stout frenchie on a BMWr1200 gives me a pull....how unfair.....oh and the girl shows up 3 min's later pointing out the little gendarmarie emblem on the licence plate.....nice

Same here. Sold the R1 for a Yamaha MT-01 V twin. :D

With my remapped Z4MC, with the limiter removed, we saw 192mph on the clock (292km/h) on my last run to the 'Ring. Was having a bit of fun with a Belgian plated ACS E60...

To be frank I've done this trip maybe a dozen times over the last three years....in 996c4s/997Turbo and the 4mc .....clermont ferrand through to Girona a dream of a drive....Milau bridge scenery and roads to die for....Over the last 12 months its got worse particularly in the south and nearer to the channel ports....The 178Kph story was from the lips of a gendarme so assume its true.....make sure you've also got all of your docs with you (licence/car registration/insurance) as they don't do a 7 day producer like the UK... and being short any one of the aforementioned and its another reason for them to toss entente cordiale out the window..that said have fun keep your eyes open....invest in a valentine or similar...and keep it hidden...they confiscate and big bollocking.... and never call them cheese eating, wine swilling surrender monkeys

Thanks i always take my docs with me the one time i forgot my insurance was when i got pulled but they were OK had a good laugh at me trying to tell them i had left it on the table in england :D

Have been looking to fit something in the car to pick up speed traps something that is built in and hidden for use abroad as i know about the French dislike for speed detectors.

This will be my first trip to Le-Mans in the Z4 so very excited but have to be carefull :D
