following on from the previous Aston Martin V8 thread (sorry its not z4 based :oops: ) I was hoping to get everyones thoughts on this proposal.......

10 days / 1000 miles use - additional mileage allowance can be purchased at 60pence per mile - includes upto 2x 2 day weekends (friday&saturday or saturday&sunday)

Restricted to 15 members per year so availability and rescheduling days can be accommodated.

Only expenses incurred will be for fuel and damage incurred/caused by driver of course!

After LOTS of research I think I have budgeted for correct commercial type insurance (what a nightmare to source!!!), RFL, annual clutch replacement, new tyres, 2xservices pa (they're due annually or 10k miles), and pads/discs (- all at specialist indy as the car would be outside manufacturer warranty)

North-east-centric compared to the majority of 'competitors' who are based in the south.

£1375 pa plus VAT. Security deposit against credit card £3000 taken at time of each collection and refunded upon return. This is no P1 set up of course but from small acorns grow great oaks......Or am I way off mark. ALL comments greatly appreciated.
 
i think you will need more than one set of the clutch and tyres per year , people are going to drive it as they stole it :lol:
 
Just out of curiosity how much have you allowed for 2 services on a AM ?
Only asking as a guy who owns a ceramic tile warehouse i use had one & when he switched to a R8 i asked him why & he said £6k on a service is not worth the thrill of the badge :cry: I didn't believe cause i know he's a bull5hitt3r :P
 
amoc online info/forum suggest approx £2000 for clutch expecting three changes over 2 years and servicing at £600 minor £1000 major. Ive seen a story of one guy going in for annual service at the main dealer but quote came back to say he needed a suspension work and clutch i think along with new wipers for about £7000 but the wiper arms were being touted as 400 quid - recommended changed purely for cosmetic reasons - surely removal and repainting would be far cheaper! Anyway thats not a servicing in my book.
 
what im looking for is potential issues/problems/queries that i might not have considered. I think I have all bases covered but you never know...... cheers
 
100 miles per day ? Is this from the point of collection because if so that could easily be used up in pick/drop off depending on members location ?
What's the car doing for the remaining 200 or so days ?
 
You might struggle to get a £3000 hold on a credit card.

The price seems attractive, but you'd want to see the car first. Have you found one?

What was the cost to hire from Hertz specialist rental or similar? You're working on £1.38 per mile, I'm wondering if you're covering your costs sufficiently :?

Well, if he's got any sense... he'll be hiring it out to other people for the going rates as below... though it makes me wonder, are these companies making a huge amount of money; or are you under estimating the actual operation costs...

Most of these companies I'ved referenced are charging £3+ per mile additional... but then I guess some of that will be profit.

EDIT: Sorry realised we're talking cross-purposes... that's £3.00+ per additional mile as appose to £0.60.

100 miles per day is the going rate for these type of schemes - even from Hertz rent a car place. Usually from collection too. This is main reason for setting up here in the north east.

The other 200 days it ll be enjoyed by me :) I may have it on hire at £200 plus vat per day when available but have nt costed that yet.

Again these security deposits are standard fare for this sort if scheme, but I agree not everyone has large credit limit. Hertz want £450 per day for a db9 - I know its not the same but they limit that car to 100 miles day too. thats collection from london i guess. if you want to collect from newcastle its £1150!!

If buying brand new and covering finance costs it would be nowhere near covering cost but ive spent a few months looking at this and im quite certain its adequate.

these prices above are pure profiteering imo. That said, I dont know their overheads etc. The annual costs can be covered by 15 members and any days rented out is profit. If i was doing this as a means of income it would be necessary to charge more but this way I can make a little pocket money and save myself the cost of hiring one myself when i fancy it!

my guess is that its a way of dissuading the driver from putting excess mileage on the motor. @60ppm if you want an extra 100 miles its £60 of course and in the grand scheme of things 100 miles of use isnt going to cause any extra real stress on components, things like tyre depth are measured prior to release and if anyone decides to spend the day doing burnouts and it comes back on canvas the security deposit will be returned less the cost of a set of tyres!

im looking at this from a point of view of 'what I would see as a good deal' and can I get away with charging this little. Ive always wanted to join one of those supercar clubs but normally theres a joining fee, and as most days/miles are paid for in points it still results in a limited mileage allowance.... the annual costs are higher too but admittedly there is bigger selection of cars and perhaps a higher mileage allowance. This is not aimed at that market. To compare to z4 ownership - my enterprise is the 2.0 compared to the established companies being z4ms - to the uninitiated its a great looking experience, but with much reduced costs and the bulk of the feel good factor as long as you can accept that its not top of the range.

what problems did you have with it? Ive not bought one yet but have got quite far down the negotiation route with Stratstone (purely as they seem to provide best warranty)
